Just wait for the launch.
But Nvidia usually doesn't decrease prices ever, they just discontinue the gpus, so they disappear from the shelves.
The prices of 1080ti didn't go down when 2080ti came out etc.
no

Just wait and see. Nobody knows yet. The launch will be in less than an hour, and hopefully reviews will follow sometime soon.
if it still sells, why lower it?

With Ryzen you get more cores per dollar and generally better productivity performance. You can also go up to 16 cores on the consumer side currently with Ryzen, whereas Intel caps out at 10 cores. Zen 2 is also more power efficient than Comet Lake.
Gaming performance is still Intel's strong suit. Not sure what you mean by compatibility, but if you're referring to what memory kits you can use and that sort of thing, Intel is again better.
You should always buy the product that suits your needs best, not the one that's made by the multibillion corporation you like more than the other.

Multi-core performance for the price is quite a bit better ($280 gets you a 3700X!!!!). Temps are also very much better on AMD, as well as power consumption.
platform compatibility is also a bonus, but the AM4 socket is likely going to be replaced with Zen 4.
your father likely doesn't like AMD due to the previous FX series or a previous CPU lineup

for xplane it is Compatibility so go with intel but for anything else go with amd

Makes sense.
Luckily, PMDG 737, CRJ, Grob G103 gliders and lots of other stuff is coming soon!
As much as I'd like more airliners, I think I just can't switch. Every time I fly on X-Plane, it feels like I'm flying on FS2004 😂

Does it actually make a difference though?
Some games, while yes, utilizing all cores, don't actually see a tangible fps increase. It's just all cores have a lower workload.
It's not going to make a huge difference. By the time you'd notice a significant drop in performance it'd be time to upgrade the platform anyway.

That is true. The fps difference is probably around 5 or so.
However, in a flight sim, where the target frame rate is 24-30, it will make a bigger difference since every single frame counts for a lot

Im not ready to fully switch with only an a320 and a 747

Well i wanted to be future proof because with the extra performance right now with the i7-10700k I wouldn't be really far behind and my dad considured an i7 instead of an i5 plus i have a first gen i7 so yeah.

Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Flight sims !== games. They are incredibly different, in most cases less modern, but with MSFS, it'll actually scale across 8 cores!

by that time zen 3 would probably be out, so check that.

i agree but in the case of xplane: xplane was designed on intel so intel is actually the better choice if you are only going to use it on xplane

That's not even a good deal for a used Z370 Hero, and the 9600K is a really bad buy in this day and age.
If you want to go with Intel and you're just gaming, get a 10600K, an NH-U12S chromax.black or Dark Rock 4 to go along with it (since it doesn't include a stock cooler), 2x8GB memory kit (3200 CL14 would be really good, cheap 3600 CL16 would be good but 3200 CL16 is also alright) and a Z490 Gaming Edge WIFI or Z490 Vision G. This is ignoring AMD's upcoming Zen 3 and Intel's upcoming Rocket Lake-S.

So now i know
I should just wait for the i7-10700k for Christmas then
Thank you every one for your opinions

@DonnyTM xplane was actually designed on intel so you will actually get better performance with intel if you are only looking to use your pc for xplane

I would wait until the Winter, if that's when you feel like you can do the proper upgrade. By that time, AMD's Zen 3 CPUs will also likely have been released, so you might have even more options to upgrade to.

DonnyTM reacted to 5x5 in Should I get an i5-9600k or wait for i7-10700k?
Neither. Either wait for Zen 3 ina month or get a 3700X. Pretty much the same performance as a 10700K with half the heat/power draw and a much cheaper board and CPU combo.

Are flight sim games you play single threaded optimized? If so I could understand wanting to stick with intel - but note that any CPU change to current generation will require a new motherboard and RAM at a minimum as well - the rest can transfer over. If the games you play (and workstation tasks) benefit from core count...I highly suggest looking into AMD for bang for buck return on investment
