nightmarevoid got a reaction from Slayerking92 in No PCIe RGB controllers 🤔
I mean I can't be the only one who thinks it's weird that this doesn't exist. I've seen PCI/PCIe controller cards for just about everything under the sun, but I haven't found one for RGB controllers, 12V or 5V. The closest thing I've found to a generic RGB controller is these two devices:
    https://www.amazon.com/LEDdess-Rainbow-Controller-Remote-Control/dp/B07KY6RR88/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=PCIe+rgb+controller&qid=1598726341&sr=8-5
    https://www.amazon.com/Lamptron-LAMP-CFP30B-Fan-RGB-LED-Controller-PCI-Slot/dp/B07HT953CL/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=PCIe+rgb+controller&qid=1598726341&sr=8-8
Every other controller is either a proprietary USB hub or a physical switch that you need to seal inside your PC.

So what's the deal with this? I would think that a small add-in card, even one that just uses a USB header, would be fairly desirable. Is it perhaps that none of the motherboard manufacturers want to license their managing software, and there's some legal wall stopping a manufacturer from making a product that would rely on free RGB software? It all just seems like a wasted opportunity to me.

I miss my Lumia 950 so much. The face login was awesome and the keyboard was my favorite hands-down.

    Windows Phones.

That was hands down the best UI experience I've had to date with a phone.  Nothing has come close.

The live tiles were very useful and gave you basic information at a glimpse with ANY app you chose to pin on the start menu, and a system-wide dark mode was available years before Android and iOS had it.  The Windows phone had unified messaging, and Cortana was (maybe still is if it still works on the old phones) the best voice assistant. You could do ANYTHING with it, including singing random songs which was hilarious, and still be natural sounding.  She could pick out a song on the radio, and link me to the song on Zune where you were able to download the album from the store.  It was all integrated, and it was years before iOS and Android adapted that; heck, I remember when SoundHound was a thing.

It was the closest we non-iOS users came to PC/phone integration. I had installed a podcast app on my phone and PC, and used Cortana to remind me when a new episode came out on whatever device I was actively using at the time.

One more thing, the cameras on any windows phones were amazing, you were able to do so much within the stock camera app.  I could zoom in for days on my photos and still have clarity too; and it even recorded audio in Dolby 5.1 surround sound, which made my videos sound beautiful on a home theatre system.  It was cool.

I think the main problems were the lack of apps (that's what did it for me) and it was too ahead of its time.  It scared a lot of people to have that level of integration which is ironic...

Honestly, Windows phones help shape the mobile OS's we have today to be what they are.

This was the scourge of my childhood. I never figured out what I had done until a windows update reset it for me.

When you write code, your compiler creates executable files (on Windows) that can be opened by anyone running the correct hardware and software. For Windows, the Visual Studio IDE can compile your code and it even has ways of adding an installer. For macOS, you have Xcode which does the same thing. Xcode handles app development for Apple devices.

As for the programming language, the way you write your algorithms are very similar. The syntax can be annoying but if you look past it, the thinking is the same.

You don’t usually need to create games from 0. For any language you choose, there exist commercial and open source libraries that you can use in your code. For instance in python there’s a library call turtle which lets you create a window and draw things on it, move them, rotate etc. I’ve built a Tetris game in it. What you need to do is look for particular libraries that you need for your game. For example in C++ you have a library called SDL which is used to create visual stuff for games and there are tutorials about it.

Obviously there’s also game engines but I don’t suspect that’s what you are looking for.

a friend of mine just downloaded unity, and tried to make a game where a ball needed to roll and catch stars, and you did that by moving the entire board.
took him about 3 days to learn how to do via youtube videos.
you could try that if you want.

I have the 200MB plan from Xfinity. As far as the cable goes, as far as I know it's a regular Cat 5.e cable. That being said I have no idea what the health of the cable is. I just found it at work wrapped up behind the server cabinet and took it with me so it wouldn't be tossed in landfill. For all I know it was there because it was broken.

It's most likely a wiring issue. See if you can get another Cat5E or Cat6 cable and if that fixes the problem.

I looked for such things long ago.  The only stuff I could find was either industrial and designed for mainframes or whole house residential.  I use a UPS as a sort of garbage power cleaner because I can’t get anything better.  I’d like to though.  Cost was a big one. I couldn’t find anything under five grand.  I would have laid a couple hundred out for a single machine device in A heartbeat though.

nightmarevoid reacted to ShizzenDizzen in Doom 2016 hangs up when on loading screens, Ctrl+Alt+Del fixes it
Topic is old, but this was the only site where I found someone with the same problem. So that's why I am still writing here. After finishing Doom Eternal, I wanted to play Doom (2016) again (had played it on a PS4 some years ago).
I had the same Issue as you did. And after researching a little, I found a fix, that at least is working fine with my system:

    GTX 1660 Ti (Mobile)
    Intel i7 8750h
    32 GiB RAM
And an SSD (not so important, I guess)

So Sauron's assumption was right. Vulkan did the thing for me. But when you are monitoring your FPS or any other data with GEFORCE Experience or any similar program, something's off. This is what I'd found from the devs:

    https://steamcommunity.com/app/379720/discussions/0/359543542243503468/

So I have turned off my GEFORCE in game overlay and am using the advice from the devs to show the fps counter you can use in the advanced settings in Doom. Compared to Doom Eternal the loading is still slow, but I don't have to ctrl + alt + del all the time when I am dying or so.

Hope this still is helping some...

nightmarevoid got a reaction from AngryPandaPC in Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions
Linus has done plenty of videos on using a server to simulate multiple user systems, but I'd like to see one that uses current hardware on both the server and consumer side. Namely, I'd like to see them build a typical gaming PC ($700-$1000 range) and some other stuff like a NAS, home work station, and maybe dedicated linux game server, and then compare it to a virtualized system running in a server rack (or just a big beefy case) using beefy current hardware from AMD/radeon, Intel, and Nvidia. I'd really be interested in a total comparison involving cost, footprint, power consumption, noise, convenience, and where that intersection is where one method becomes better than the other (if there is one). I'd like to see where the performance hits are, if any.

I think a circular chart with each category on a point around it would really help to visualize this (all I can think of as an example is those vehicle stat charts in racing games or for stands in JoJo's bizarre adventure).

I'm interested because one big virtualized machine sounds like the best option for minimalist/compact living in terms of materials, power, and noise, but I just don't know. Any thoughts from other users or LTT employees? I promise to buy some merch if you make it!

Dude that is beyond absurd, I would be irate.  Had a similar thing happen at microcenter a couple years back, bought a open box PG348Q, sticker said good on it, brought it home, corner of the screen was cracked from clearly being dropped.  noticed the sticker was over another one, peeled it back and sure as s*** the yellow sticker said cracked screen on it.  In my case I threw a giant bitch fit and had unmistakable proof they were shady, they gave me a brand new one for the same price as open box.  Best of luck on your RMA.

Then login to Newegg and open a support ticket, including pictures of how absolute SHIT their packaging job was. Ask them for a full refund, then take your business elsewhere, or risk ordering another refurbished unit. (or buy something new?)

New products should be shipped in manufactures packaging, and would never be packaged like this.
