  1. think tiny lightning bolt shooting out of your finger into whatever electronics you're holding. thats whats happening. when i was building servers i saw a few instances of ESD burning out parts of the motherboard, but physical damage is rare. usually it causes issues that are hard to diagnose, ram or processor not clocking correctly, maybe a usb port not working, graphics card not getting enough power. just weird shit, often people think the motherboard is doa, when actually they fried it on accident without realizing it.
  2. did you install it from here https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/
  3. what coding? doing projects with a raspberry pi doesnt instantly mean your writing your own javascript. there are thousands of projects that can be setup in mere minutes, with no coding whatsoever. apt-get and git clone is not coding.
  4. none of my personal machines, but when i was building servers, i had a few caps blow and let out the magic smoke. and once we got a bad power supply catch fire on a switch. that was fun
  5. "People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome." - River Song "I'd say I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not. I excel at not giving a shit. Experience has taught me that interest begets expectation, and expectation begets disappointment, so the key to avoiding disappointment is to avoid interest. A equals B equals C Equals A, or whatever. I also don't have a lot of interest in being a good person or a bad person. From what I can tell, either way, you're screwed. Bad people are punished by society's laws, and good people are punished by Murphy's Law. So you see my dilemma." - George (Dead Like Me) "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again." - Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time) EDIT: holy fuck was this necro'd
  6. could get something like a raspberry pi. gives him tons of options to tinker.
  7. yep! i completely agree. and thats just one reason for doing it, im sure there are others that make more sense on the business side of things. more than likely they keep the bots and stuff in to bump up the active player count to look good for shareholders, and as soon as they show off their numbers and it doesnt matter anymore, then they ban them. but thats "probably" just tin-foil hat stuff.
  8. freezing tempurature of mineral oil is -4c (24 freedom units) you would have issues trying to maintain sub zero in this condition
  9. more than i got with my phone lol (while i would not recommend buying the red hydrogen especially at this point, i do not regret wasting my money my purchase)
  10. the idea is that doing it in waves, makes it more difficult for the bot/hack creators to identify what it was that triggered the flag, thus "theoretically" making it harder for them to stay under the radar next time.
  11. very true. with his specifically, after digging into what i can find, i believe if he grounds the white wire, and provides 12v to the green wire in the factory wiring harness, it should do the trick. however, a disclaimer, its not one that ive personally worked on and theres always a chance itll also just blow up the radio. you can also find and buy an adaptor that you can just plug in, and itll do what he needs, but they are rather expensive
  12. easy, pull the radio out, ground the parking brake, and slide the radio back in. it tells the radio system that the vehicle is in park, even if its not and you can do whatever you want.

    Was it a ufo?

if it was flying, and you dont know what it is, then yes. by definition, it is an Unidentified Flying Object. until somebody tells you what it was, it is a UFO
  14. i hate asking for things for my birthday. the only things i might actually want are too expensive to ask anybody else to buy for me.
  15. this is normal. the better your cooling system, the colder the computer is, and the warmer the room gets. welcome to thermodynamics. find a way to vent it out of the room
  16. sounds like you should call 0118-999-881-999-119-7253 immediately
  17. much to the dismay of my wife, when mine gets that long i shave it off. im much too lazy to deal with it
  18. there are thousands of different reasons it might fail to install. do you have an actual error message so we can narrow it down a little?
  19. videogames (runescape mostly when i was younger) taught me how to type. and other various tidbits of random knowledge that i'll never need to know. in science class, the teacher asked us how glass is made. from my vast runescape experience, i was able to give a fairly accurate outline of the actual process. gaming has also been good for team building and being more social in general.
  20. if your using an ntfs partition, you'll need to edit your /etc/fstab parameters to set the uid and gid to your username. some googling should get you through the rest
  21. there is no reason to use this product on a touch/trackpad or laptop screen of any kind. its designed to be used as a hydrophobic, scratch resistant layer for cars so you dont fuck up the clear coat when some asshole rubs against it in the parking lot, it also makes it easier to clean and wash. while it has some potential for phones, because those are more likely to get scratched being in your pocket, or setting down on various surfaces, for basically anything else, it would serve no purpose.
