I would cut into the 2700 to get a 2600, and then buy a RM550X as PSU, or at least get the 2700 and overclock it, the 2700X is just more expensive.

The PSU tierlist is a good tool to select PSUs from. Glad to see people using it.

I think i am going to try and overclock my CPU for the first time! The only problem...I have no idea what im doing and am very worried.

I have a 240mm EK cooling loop and i hope that this will be sufficient...

I don't even think that overclocking is that worth it? I only game and don't think that it will make much of a difference

that is the other thing as well, i dont excatly have the best of motherboards going. Becuase my old MB broke i had to get a new one earlier this year and finding MBs for 4th gen cpus is easier said than done

i agree i just wanted to be able to say that i could do it but i would much rather just get a '2k' monitor.

it most probably wont be a few months until i get the card just doing my VERY detailed research (which has gone from scouring google for hours on end to just coming on here and asking ??) This will then allow for the future and to be able to see what card i should get

1080, its like the 980 on steroids. See, the 980 is still relevant even today even though Pascal 1070 and up stomps it. In the future, 1080 will not die easily like Kepler. It will be around mid-range perf. Just like the 980 Ti became similar perf to the 1070/Ti

checked PCPP, the cheapest decent Vega 56 is the Sapphire dual fan card at 280 pounds, cheapest 2060 that's ok is the Zotac Gaming at 313 quid.

PSU wise, be quiet Pure Power 11 600w cost 72 pounds, Corsair TX650M cost 73 pounds. You can easily afford both things at once, without needing the 1060's resale value

    1. At 4k, your GTX 1060 is your problem, not really the 4790k. You can alleviate some of the CPU issues if you overclock it.

    2. 4k is nice, but it's not really reasonable for gaming without a really powerful GPU. Most of the time you'll be running with either heavily reduced settings or at 1080p, which will still look weird on a 4k monitor.

    3. Consider a 1440p/75 monitor, which will be easy for your CPU to drive and your 1060 might be able to do it with relaxed settings. A new medium-range GPU int he future will be able to drive 1440p/75 for quite a white. A 1080p/144 monitor is good, but you need a strong CPU (and GPU) to really drive it.

yeah, and have some fun with overclocking to get a little higher, it's both fun and worth it.
