Yeah so you should be able to just use a coupler to join two of the cables together. I am in a similar situation and was considering trying MoCA, but my box where all of the cables run to is outside, and I don't want a line for my network running outside were someone could potentially connect to it. If your box is in the garage, I'd say go for it.

A 1080 will run the index but maybe not at the 120-144hz refresh that one of the big selling points in the more graphically intense games. Unless you REALLY want the better tracking and higher refresh rate or your IPD just doesn't work with the rift S (which doesn't seem to be the case if you already had a good experience with it) it's probably not worth the price difference to most people.

The difference between the Rift S and the Quest is as follows.

The Quest has a Mobile SOC and battery built in so you can play native arm/android games on it totally wireless. While they have ported many PCVR games to it nativley, they are not as pretty graphically as they are running on mobile phone hardware.
Quest has a resolution of 2880x1600.
Quest has a refresh rate of 72hz.
Quest has a physical IPD adjustment slider.
Quest supports native hand tracking via the cameras.
Quest link cable to connect to PC is an extra purchase. Other USB 3 cables will work but you'd need to research which ones. This makes the price a bit higher than the rift s for playing PCVR games.

    Rift S
PCVR only via Display Port connector
    2560x1440 resolution
    80hz refresh
Software IPD adjustment only so very wide/narrow eyes may not have a good experience with it.
No hand tracking yet (might come in the future?)

So if you've already confirmed the IPD isn't an issue for you, the question becomes
Would you make use of the ability to play quest games wirelessly on the go? Costs a decent bit more for 128GB storage vs standard 64GB
Would you use the hand tracking?
Are you ok with paying an extra $80 for the cable to connect to the PC?

The difference in resolution and refresh between the 2 is pretty minor.

If you are only ever going to play PCVR then the Rift S should be fine.
If you want the option to play totally wireless stand alone games as well as PCVR or need manual IPD adjustment then the Quest with a Quest link cable would be a better choice.

Index has the best tracking and image quality but as your said is much more expensive and will require mounting lighthouses to your walls or some form of stands.

Motion sickness tends to depend on what kind of game you're playing unless you are one of the lucky ones who is just immune to it.
If your eyes tell your brain you are moving but your inner ear and body don't agree you may feel sick.  If you are physically moving around your play space in game you shouldn't get sick unless you have high video lag or tracking issues.

If you do start to feel sick in a game, stop and come back to it later.  Pushing through will make things worse.

To start off, yes, that is indeed D.Va all over the screens. She's best girl, sorry not sorry! I'm not exactly a build log kind of person, so I have like two pictures that aren't God awful in quality. This is my daily/gaming setup. The main reason for showing this off is the two monitors I recently wall mounted to add a bit more real estate to my desktop. The specs for the computer, as well as some of my other rigs, are in my signature, but I'll go ahead and break it down here anyways:

    CPU - Ryzen 9 3900x
Cooler - Cooler Master 240MM AIO
    Motherboard - Crosshair VI Hero
    RAM - 2x8GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB @ 3000Mhz
GPU - Dual GTX 1080 (No SLI currently for monitors)
    Storage - XPG 480GB N.vme SSD, 2TB Seagate HDD
    PSU - Corsair RM750x
    Case - Cougar Conquer

As far as the audio goes, some of you guys might be interested in this:

Is there a sticker with manufacturer info on the back of that? Might help in finding out what the actual native resolution of it is, which will matter a lot in how you can send a signal to it. The DVI connector is digital (no pins around the spade), and is dual link, so you might not support the display properly if your video card only does DVI single link (not meaning 2 connectors mind you, but difference in pin array in the DVI connector).

DVI is the newest thing that connects to it, it does support better display density than VGA, so as long as you adapt it to something that stays Digital, like DP or HDMI, you should be getting the best you can.  Given it looks more like a point of sale or business display, I would not hold out hope that it's 4K stretched really wide, it's likely going to be a little less DPI-rich.

^^^ this. Back when I mucked around with 1080 SLI, the best scaling game I found was EA's Battlefront 2015 so I ran tests in that. With my 5Ghz 8600K, it'd bottleneck at 1080p (60-70% usage or so on both cards), but using DSR to push 1440p or 4K slapped both cards to 99% and got some insane fps numbers (all ultra with no AA, 200fps flat at 1440p, 134-144fps at 4K). The rest of my games didn't scale well and I couldn't get them to behave so I sold the 1080s. Should probably try SLI again sometime if I have the cash, it's quite fun to tinker with and dual cards look gorgeous (mine were EVGA SCs, good gosh they looked damn pretty, did 2100Mhz on the core in SLI as well, I forget what on the VRAM).

The Old Myron Siren reacted to Frankenburger in Would GTX 1080 SLI Be a Real Dumb Idea?
I've been running SLI since 2014, currently on SLI 1080Ti.

Stability really isn't an issue. Either SLI works, or it doesn't. If SLI doesn't work, then you can often get it working by changing the compatibility bits. In the rare occasion SLI causes negative scaling, and changing the bits doesn't help, you can simply disable SLI for the game's process.

My only recommendation would be to run games with DSR, SSAA, or with graphics mods. Of course, you don't have to, but SLI is easy to bottleneck at 1080p. Most games simply don't stress modern high end GPUs for SLI to really show its stuff until you start rendering above 1440p.

Been using sli for a decade and only had a few issues. Shitty game or a shitty pc.

Lately its its kinda both. Ran two on black ops 4. Cpu intensive game and it destroyed the cpu at 1440p. But FPS doubled. Would have been a great experience though. But some maps were worse than others. Just stuck to using a single card at 1080p and put the other one in a spare rig.

Would only upgrade if the pc can actually handle it. Not for the sake of it as most tend to suggest.

    they should sli just fine

It's probably going to be more miss than hit, SLI in 2019 is not ideal at all, it will work here and there but every year that passes less games supports it

regardless if you can buy the card for 150$ and thinks this is a great deal for you have in mind using it is not ideal, PhysX dedicated cards aren't a thing anymore... SLI is hardly a thing either and you're looking at doubling your power drawing, noise and heat output so there are draw backs.

there's no particular true appeal on a 1080 SLI nowadays like many said if you could sell both cards and get something new it'd be preferable.
