  1. I wish I could help man, but I'm a software engineer, I'm almost illiterate with hardware.
  2. When my friend needed more RAM on their PC for a resource-hogging game, he said 'will a flash drive give me more RAM?'. I almost cried.
  3. Yeah maybe it's just the Displayport cable that can't carry the 240Hz or even 144Hz signal. I would suggest trying a new cable.
  4. Try lowering your bitrate in your streaming software.
  5. If you don't activate it, it's digital piracy. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/digital-piracy
  6. I have kind of switched to Linux, but not fully, since I dualbooted Linux and Windows 10 Pro.
  7. Why don't you just put the dock on the right or left hand sides instead of messing about with Terminal commands?
  8. Yeah, glad I could help. Mhmm, it's either he learns how to use ChromeOS or he installs a Linux distro.
  9. Format both drives so they are both clean, and re-install Windows. It is a difficult process to manually transfer the BM to another drive.
  10. The only legal and legit way to get Windows is by buying a Windows license and then install Windows on a box and enter the product key from your license.
  11. I don't think I'd personally use it, since I'm a software engineer not a web developer, but I think the concept would really appeal to some people, such as web developers, for example.
  12. @eth_jones No problem, glad I could help!
  13. Try Boot Camp Assistant which can be found in the Utilities directory of the Applications folder in macOS.
  14. Try it out on an old laptop or something, to see if you like it. If you don't want to remove the stuff on the other machine, try virtualisation, using something like VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org)
  15. Double check you have the correct drivers for your Ubuntu version.
  16. Try giving the server a static IP, that should help.
  17. Try to find some drivers on the tonymac86 forums, hopefully that should help. If it doesn't, ask the guys over there. They should be able to help you out, they are literally the Hackintosh experts.
  18. Ubuntu has a 32-bit version, you can find it at https://www.ubuntu.com/download/alternative-downloads.
  19. Try installing the VirtualBox addons if you are using VirtualBox.
  20. You can install a Linux distribution instead of Chrome OS to see if that helps your dad, but there is no way, at least that I am aware of, that you can install Windows on a Chromebook.
  21. If the drivers are compatible with Linux, I don't see why they shouldn't.
  22. (This solution works for macOS and any Linux distro.) You can use the 'passwd' command in your terminal. You just need to type in the new password. If you can't log into the account that you want to change the password of, you can boot into recovery mode (using CMD+R), then enter 'resetpassword' into the Terminal app. Hope I could help.
  23. You can find your home folder (where all your files are stored) at '/home/<username>' where <username> is the name that you use to log on to the Linux box. So if my username was 'tesla', my home folder would be located at '/home/tesla/'. Steam's files can be found at '/home/<username>/.steam'. Hope I could help.
