  1. I haven't read every single word of the OP... can I assume that this is a USA idea? Land of the free 'to do what your told like a good little sheep and that means we control every aspect of your life, you get no rights to anything except guns, racism and intolerance' But yeah... FREEDOM... Murica, murica, murica.
  2. A few eyars ago... before steam actually adopted the policy of offering refunds for faulty products (providing less than 2hrs of game time) I tried to get a refund for a bundle of games that simply would not run (older Star Wars flight sim games that I loved when I was younger)... They ignored me completely. for weeks refused to respond to the support ticket. I had the original games on CD still but couldn't get them working in windows 7. So I filed a paypal dispute... suddenly they respond... and threaten to ban my account if I don't cancel the dispute and that they refuse to refund me until I cancel the dispute. Now if you cancel a dispute.. you can't open it again. So I took screen grabs of their threats, copied emails and so forth and spoke with paypal about it... They agreed that they would re-open the dispute if steam failed to refund me. I told steam that's what I had done and said they had 24hrs to resolve it. I got my refund... and I managed to get my original games working thanks to the people working on the X-Wing Alliance Update project... that I hadn't realised was still a thing (I used to use it back in the early 2000's). Thanks to the, I not only got XWA working, but XW VS TF and Expansion as well as the original XW and TF games (with expansions). Not long after that... Steam changed their policy... Ubisoft on the other hand point blank refuse to refund anything if it's been started... regardless of whether the game works or not. You HAVE to resort to a chargeback on your card or a paypal dispute. These days, if I can get it on GOG I will... unless it's ridiculously cheaper elsewhere, and I have boycotted EA for more than a decade because... well..,. fuck them and I won;t buy anything from Epic anymore due to their shitty practices of late and their ties to China.
  3. I saw the title of this thread and it made me laugh... I came in actually expecting a load of fanboi gushing and looked for the 'WOW... a 100% increase in the number of RTX titles coming out' Whilst all of my expectations weren't completely met... I wasn't disappointed... It did make me laugh.
  4. They'll have fun with my credit scores... I don't believe in credit, I have no social media presence, I actively block any and all tracking and scripts in my browser (along with ads, cookies and everything else that's not required to view a piece of text) and what limited 'social' stuff I engage with is done through accounts that contain no personal information at all.... and ALL of my internet traffic is routed through a VPN to further obfuscate attempts to identify me. It does mean that on the very rare occasion I see an add on some random website... it's never relevant to anything I am actually interested in... and facebook and google trackers are completely blocked from ALL websites.
  5. You quote me... and leave out the part where I said Uplay... it was the very word before the part you quoted.
  6. Sorry to put this so bluntly... but anyone who uses and or believes that signing into an account via a 3rd party site is a good idea is an idiot of epic proportions...I have zero sympathy for stupidity like that. You fucked yourself, no one else to blame but the idiot in the chair. Now take it as a lesson... learn from it and never ever, ever give any other website access to anything from another site... Do not believe the 'convenience' bullshit. it's all a lie to harvest data, either for theft or to sell your private info to the highest bidder. Use a decent browser (IE, not Chrome or Edge) with privacy safeguards... that includes ad, script, cookie, java, and tracker plugins. If you don't take proper precautions... you've only yourself to blame.
  7. No company is ever going to do an ounce of work to resolve an issue... it's down to the person with the issue to pursue it, provide any and all evidence to support their argument and force them to take it seriously. All any company will do is sit back, stick their fingers in their ears and go LALALALALALALALALALALALA until they are forced to not ignore it anymore. My current cluster fuck with Uplay.. bought a game, not in my list, can't download it... complain... get told to wait... they've taken my money... simply reply that I should wait... say they're escalating it but I know from experience it takes weeks for anything to get fucking done with those arse clowns... So I gave them until 5pm today to resolve it... t hey failed. Filed paypal claim.... Not the first time I've had to resort to that with those fuckers... If not for the fact the game was so ridiculously cheap I wouldn't have even considered buying it... but 85% off means I get it for a few pounds instead of the £60 or more they want for a fucking game.
  8. That's actually close to what the max I will pay in the UK... £20-25 is my limit no matter how great the game is... and that's the full game with ALL dlc not some stripped back not worth owning version... If I have to wait a little longer to play it... so be it... or there are alternatives... a... evaluation version. Until it's on sale for a sensible price, at around 60% or more off. The reason the industry is making billions is because they're ripping of consumers and consumers are just going ... TAKE MY MONEY BEFORE YOU FINISH THE GAME... giving the companies no actual incentive to finish the game... We've got their money... FUCK THEM ALL. The sheep mentality of people never ceases to amaze me... just when I think... Nah.. they can''t fall for this shit again... they go and prove me wrong.
  9. A good story line does not make for a great game if the actual game itself is bad... So whilst games like Wolfenstein NO and NC have great storylines... the games themselves are kinda mediocre. The only games I've played in recent years that have both a great storyline and a great gaming experience... are the Witcher series and to a lesser degree the Tomb Raider reboot. I very nearly adding Watchdogs and Watchdogs 2... but they're just ok rather than really good. I've seen the Bioshock series mentioned, I found them ok but infinite was such a short game that it was a complete disappointment... So doesn't cut it in my book. I've not found a game that can compete with Witcher 3 on any level... But I don't play consoles any more because the cost of buying them + any games is so excessive that It's cheaper to build a high end PC and hit the steam sales and save money.
  10. Ever tried to talking to Uplay support... the most useless bunch of idiots I've ever encountered... Not capable of pulling the stick from their arse let alone fixing a problem. Not gonna help OP... but they're just a drop in the ocean of companies that have a 'not my problem' attitude and no sense of responsibility or rational thinking when it comes to dealing with customer issues. Send them proof of the account hack, ask them to verify IP info of user accessing the game... as well as hardware ID's they may use... and see if it matches. Either they're capable of acting reasonably or they're not... and either the 'friend' is being honest, or they're not.
  11. I had an FX8350 until the start of this year, paired with an RX580 and it was decent enough. It's gonna struggle on higher settings as the CPU just isn't fast enough to max out the card. I was playing the Wolfenstein series on that setup too... Not on max settings, but I was playing 1440p. I struggled with Assassins Creed Origins frame rates and GTA V has always been an issue on FX CPU's due to it's heavy reliance on single thread performance. Good news is, you can pick up a 580 8gb really cheap these days... We're talking £130-140 here in the UK... and the RX570 is even cheaper. I saw them for around £105 this week. I'm now running the 580 on a B450 with 2600X and 32GB 3200mhz ram (had 16gb before) and the card can still hold it's own in 1440p... now running most games at very high or ultra settings and getting 40-60fps... Which is fine for me at the moment as my 2 27" monitors are only 75hz and the 22" is only 60hz. Funnily enough, I just went back and played a couple of the Crysis games recently and was getting really good performance on my new setup. Currently waiting for real world results on the 5700 cards before deciding if my next upgrade will be AMD or nVidia based.
  12. It's all about the bandwidth, PCI-E 3.0 is capable of up to 8GB per sec on each lane... So if you've got a card in a 16x PCI-E 3.0 slot that's a theoretical limit of 128GB per sec. PCI-E 4.0 has a bandwidth of 16GB per sec across each lane, which gives you 256GB on a 16x slot. PCI-E 5.0 is slated to be released in the next year or so, which doubles bandwidth again. So the latest 2080Ti doesn't yet max out the PCI-E 3 bandwidth... so whilst it's not essential and won;t be for a couple of years... It's all about the bragging rights... AMD have launched the first PCI-E graphics cards, along with the first 16/32 core consumer desktop CPU's and all whilst being the first to do so on a 7nm production. So whilst you won't see any immediate benefit to it... it is the future of gaming cards and storage devices. Think of it much the same way nvidia touted RTX... no real benefit to gamers, as very few games support it (9-10 months later there's still only a few with another few being released in the coming year)... and outside of the 2080 series... not really worth having at all because of the performance hit... even the 2080 series itself is only gonna give you around 60fps with it on... which is around a 50% performance hit I think. Within the next 12 months or so... nVidia will be releasing their cards with PCI-E 4 spec and intel motherboards will start getting it as well... or they face the risk of looking like they're being left behind with 'older' technology. Much like they are in the CPU market when they haven't even been able to bring 10nm CPU's to market (I think they are later this year) whilst AMD are already on 7nm. At the moment, it's only X570 boards that get PCI-E 4... I've heard nothing about any B550 boards coming along any time soon... and I still don't know for certain if asll of the B450 boards can support the 16/32 core R3950X. So... tl:dr no immediate benefit to gamers, but future proofing your tech and AMD claim several world firsts over intel & nvidia.
  13. Wow... not one sensible and reasonable answer... just a load of AMD bashing. I guess the 5700 cards have the fanbois worried that they may have overpaid for something and they can no longer crow about having 'the best' But seeing as you specifically asked about the RVII vs R5700... I would wait a few weeks and see what real world performance is like on the new cards. It's always better to be fully informed when making a purchase, and getting the best performance vs value for money is the key for most people... there will always be those who treat tech items as a fashion accessory and want what's perceived as the current 'cool' thing to own. Those people you can completely ignore. When you see the real world numbers and pricing, only then can you make an informed choice... and at the same time you can see what nvidia does to compete against (potentially) faster cards are much lower prices. You may find that they slash a few prices for a few weeks to try and offset the release of navi based cards. But if the AMD numbers prove to be accurate, they're gonna have to drop them a little 'below' AMD prices to offer true value. Over the next few weeks you'll see the 3rd party cards appearing with better cooling designs and so forth... Can't make a rational choice until you have all the info. Just remember that with the RVII you are paying a premium for that 16GB of HBM memory... so unless you are a content creator it could be wasting money on something you are never going to really see the benefit off.
  14. Only took a few replies for the fanbois to start bragging about RTX... it's a niche within a niche that has such a performance hit that makes owning a 2070/2060 not really worth it. Even with the new games announced that will support it... the number of games fully supporting ray tracing is what... 9-10? I've never bought into the nvidia bullshit hype... When it comes to true value for money (performance vs price) AMD have always had the upper hand... nvidia are like apple... they've got a great marketing dept that has managed to convince gullible people that they're the 'cool' product to own even when there are better performing vs value products available. Owning an nvida graphics card has become a fashion item for a large percentage of people. Now I may admit there could be a little bias in my argument... I've never forgotten what they did to 3DFX and it's users all those years ago. I don't dislike what they make, I intensely dislike their attitude and the way they conduct business... which has gotten worse and worse as they've gotten bigger and bigger (same as Apple, same as Google, same as faecesbook). Hopefully... the new AMD cards will bring some true competition back into the market and force nvidia to stop being such colossal dicks to consumers. I've been waiting for the new navi based cards to launch before making a purchase... Once I see proper numbers next month... I'll decide which card to buy. but if the AMD numbers are anywhere near accurate. Then it's a no brainer based on price vs performance... and we'll see what UK pricing is going to be like and what 3rd party cards become available compared to the vastly overpriced nvidia stuff. I'm expecting UK consumers to get screwed as usual... but we don't have extra tariffs because of a dumb trade war that might affect pricing. So fingers crossed that $449/379 translates to around £349/279... If it does, I know which side I'll be choosing. I like saving that kind of money... Because 2060-2070 prices in the UK are more than £100 higher across the board (ignoring any sudden and immediate 'sale' prices of nvidia cards that will disappear again in a few weeks).
  15. I have to admit... I flew planes into very tall buildings in Flight Sim back in the 90's... After 2001 it just wasn't as fun any more. Damn terrorists spoiling things for the rest of us.
  16. Also from the UK... and I'm quite disappointed with them nowadays... I prefer the Chunky ones... which are no longer actually chunky and barely bigger than a couple of normal sticks with very little chocolate on them any more. If I'm honest... I actually prefer the faux choc bars you get in Lidl... they do great versions of twix, mars, kit kat and so forth at half the price. As for best kit kat country... probably Japan, as they have a massive variety of flavours you don;t see anywhere else in the world.
  17. The MX3 community is partly responsible for the death of a lot of MX6's... they came with a 1.8lt V6 and it was very common for people to take the KLZE engine from an import MX6 as it wasn't that hard to drop it in... Same for the Ford Probe community... they all wanted the KLZE engines. I've not seen an import MX6 for sale in the UK for quite a few years... I keep looking.
  18. You need to get it assessed, especially if there's some still in box original stuff as some of those can be quite valuable now... Condition is also a factor.
  19. I'm loving this thread... it's been far too long since I owned something really sporty. I'm aching to get back into something Japanese built, with either a V6 or nicely turbo'd... preferably a coupe of some kind. I miss my old MX6's... Had a Jspec import that I took from 198bhp to almost 225bhp. It drove on rails thanks to the 4WS and got me around the Nurburgring in 9:36... It had more grip than I had balls to be honest. I didn't have a lot of faith in the wheels/tyres/brakes I had on the car at the time and it had stock discs with EBC reds. I'd upgraded suspensions, ARB's, strut braces, lighter flywheel, stage 2 clutch, full stainless race headers, hi flow cat and stainless scorpion catback, bored out throttle body, egr delete, high flow intake and so forth. Sadly, I had to let her go in 2012 as my late father was really ill and disabled, and I needed a 4 door family sized car to help get him about. I wouldn't say no to another MX6... I've still got a few cosmetic parts in the shed (Mazdaspeed spoiler on a debadged and smoothed bootlid, stainless sills, Bose subwoofer)... But finding a Jspec variant is almost impossible now. Most have been cannibalised for the KLZE engines to put in other cars... and finding performance parts has always been hard. So here's a couple of pics of the two I owned. As for what's next... I've got a limited budget... and UK prices can be a little silly. It must be built in Japan and it must be a coupe... V6 preferred, turbo 4 pot optional. As for power... 250BHP stock at least... with room for tweaks. I do lean more towards 90's coupes... but budget dictates something else as they can be costly to buy/repair and maintain due them being very popular with the drifting community... If I could afford it, I'd love a Mitsi GTO, always liked them.
  20. I never really had a strong enough MB to push them further... I've put my old 6300 into my mums PC as a mini upgrade on an old ASUS M5A mATX board and it's still happy running @ 4.3ghz on stock voltage. The 8350 runs at 4.4ghz on stock voltage too. If I'd had a 9xx chipset board, I'd have pushed further.
  21. I'm not that bothered by the stated core and boost clocks... I'm more interested in if you can boost them on all cores ALL of the time. My 2600X is 3.6/4.25Ghz, but will only really sit at 4.1Ghz on all cores all the time. My old FX8350 4ghz/4.2 boost would sit at 4.4Ghz happily all day long, and my other system which was running an FX6300 (3.5Ghz) would happily sit at 4.3Ghz all day long. Now I know the FX line wasn't very good for OC... and the Zen+ still isn't great... So to truly compete with and beat intel... those boosts need to be achievable at all times on all cores. If they can manage that... I'm sold.
  22. has any one yet considered t hat the RX5700 may not mean just a single card called a 5700... But that there could be different levels of 57xx... from a 5710 to a 5790. Wouldn't be the first time... I remember the last time they did that... in fact I had a pair of xfire 5770 cards around 2009.that were easily comparable to the top end hardware of the time... for a lot less money.
  23. You lot do realise that the RX5700 may not mean a single GPU... but there could be different flavours of it... You could have anything from a 5710 to a 5790, from mobile to high end. Woouldn't be the first time they've gone down that exact same route, and quite successfully too.
  24. You raise a valid point, I recall that Peugot made the 1007, but were barred from calling it the 'one double O seven' due to trademarks existing with the Bond franchise. Instead it has to be called and marketed as the 'one thousand & seven' So perhaps within a very specific niche market it's possible with regards to a subset of the whole computer/IT industry... But on the whole it's generally dismissed as not possible. As for the whole 5700 naming... just 3 systems back... I had a Xfire 5770 setup on a Phenom II 955BE... Which was about 10yrs ago now. and I've had ATI cards like the 9700 back in the early/mid 2000's. So these numbering schemes do appear cyclical and both sides have used similar numbering techniques since 3D gaming cards became a thing some 23yrs ago. I'd imagine they'd find it hard to justify using a number similar to something that's already been done before. For example ATI/AMD had a mobile series in the 3xxx range.
