Can't really go wrong with 'em. IRL friend has one of the 1TB models in his PC and there aren't any glaring problems with it besides just not being enough for him.

A normal HDD will be just as fast for gaming. No need in getting an SSHD.

I have the same unit. It can get 200MB/s. Pretty fast for HDD.
Enough to load most game comfortably.

nowadays, yeah, in ddr3 era a lot of laptops couln't run with some ram config, I recently upgraded client's old lenovo, it didn't want to work with samsung, but with adata it worked fine

Should work just fine, RAM rarely has incompatibility issues with Intel motherboards in my experience. Just make sure your Bios is up to date.

16 is more practical for gaming so that's what I got.

Depends on what you're doing, for example I would love to get 32GB for my occasional video editing and image editing, but the amount of times I would actually need it, don't outweigh the 180 euros I would be paying for additional RAM, causing me to stay with my 16GB of current RAM.

16 for normal gaming and normal tasks.

32 for multi-tasking with various programs. (using PS, a video editing software, rendering, etc.)

16gb and bigger/better SSD or GPU is I was going to spend the money as a gamer

Lowering your usage amount doesn't improve performance

If you could grab an i7-6700K and a 1080Ti, that shouldn't have any bottlenecks.

Kevoh reacted to DailyProcrastinator in What further upgrades do I need?
A higher frequency CPU with your budget will give you more performance. Getting the i7-7700k and OC'ing it will make a difference. That said you should keep your eyes open on used 1080Ti's, they can be found at great deals and once you sell your CPU and GPU you probably will nearly break even on getting a 1080Ti.

Thank you for your thoughts. Hence, would it be more practical for me to upgrade my CPU first probably buying an I7 6700k SKYLAKE or find an MSI GTX 1080ti as an upgrade?

    Thanks again!

I'd get an i7-7700k, faster RAM doesn't have much of a difference on Intel systems. And then you can sell your CPU and get some money.

Running a Ryzen 7 2700X and Vega Frontier Edition off a 650W rn (want to pick up an 850W at some point for more headroom, my 1000W is in my SLI rig), you'll be fine with 850 for an i5 and 1070 Ti.

Depends on the game, if the game is very poorly optimized, built on an old engine without multithreading in mind like CS:GO or just generally cpu heavy the 6600k definitely isn't going to hold up like a 8700k or 9700k. However you realistically should be seeing similar cpu performance in games to most Ryzen cpus. So no, you're not going to see any meaningful bottleneck. I've only found a couple games to remotely even bottleneck my X5675 which is pretty much a i7 980x or so.

I'd toss a used 1080ti at it over buying another 1070, it'll work great and since you have a Z170 board with a bit of overclocking to bring the cpu more in line with the like 5th refresh of your cpu that Intel just released you'll be fine for a few years at least cpu wise before stuff starts really needing the extra threads.

Yeah, but if you haven't bought the other 1070 yet, dont because 2 cards is better than 1 and you could sell the current 1070 and with the money you'd use to get another, you could just get a 1080ti, also your cpu is a bottleneck so maybe upgrade that first.

Yes. It has enough connectors, and the system will draw maybe 400W at load.

Yes, the EVGA 850W G2 will be more than enough for two GTX 1070's in SLI.

I am using an EVGA 850W P2, and it can power two very power heavy R9-Fury (275W+ EACH) no problem.
Also have one GTX 1070 in a system with a EVGA 650W G2; entire system from the wall is less than 400W ... the last time I checked.

8 isn't enough for gaming on ddr3. Id imagine its better for ddr4. Just gonna stick with 16 ddr4. Im cheap so that should do for now.

I'm gonna start by saying i'm very stubborn about builds. Having said that:

you don't need to upgrade anything for 60fps gaming.

depending on what cpu you are using, upgrading to ddr 3200-3600 for ryzen cpus is recommended for optimal performance, if you have money to spare, get b-die.

same for intel, unless you have a 9700k/9900k, then go for 4000+.

16gb is enough (there are boards with 2 dimm slots for 2x8gb just for overclocking to squeeze the last bit out of your cpu)

der8auer also states that 3600-4000 is recommended.

It would change nothing on your games because you already have enough and unused memory is wasted memory.

Get a 3200mhz kit could provide some performance boost but not worth the hassle of replacing what you already have.

You need atleast 64gb of ram if you want above 15 fps
