Update. Three different cables later and it’s still having the same issue. Unsure of what to do at this point. I did notice when it does happen there is an error report in event viewer. I’ll have to find it to post to see if it makes sense to anyone. Could be the underlying cause.

Ordered several cables. Highwings is working so far. The fails were monoprice braided and certified and monster blue cobalt braided not certified. All 10ft/hdmi 2.1/48gbps, etc. No drops on the highwings, quality of all seems about the same but I like how they indicate the end of the cable with a simple stamp of 8K on it. Packaging is about as basic as it gets.

Tried different cable and didn't work, same thing, so updating tv firmware. I skipped the last a bit ago due to issues they had with it. We'll see if this works.

I'd stay away from the G7. The curve brings a bunch of issues with it.

The point of diminishing return for high refresh rate is somewhere at 120Hz - 144Hz. Basically anything between 144 and 180Hz feels pretty much the same. The difference to 240Hz is visually not very noticeable to most users, but there is a measurable competetive latency improvement. From the games you mentioned there is not a single one that would actually benefit from 240Hz. I'd just go for a nice 1440p 144Hz class monitor.

Currently the best one in this monitor class is the LG 27GP850-B.

Or if you're set on going 1440p 240Hz, then the Asus PG279QM is the best one in that class.

OverC1ockeD got a reaction from genexis_x in Keep my laptop or return it?
Heeeeey I know this is an old post but I haven't been on the site for a bit - I kept the 1440p @ 120hz with the GTX 1070, they gave me some money back to not return it which helped and for the price I most definitely got the best deal. While I'm still very annoyed with them that they made me wait until I got it in the mail just to redundantly return it RIGHT AFTER ordering it and they came out with the 1080; I overall could still not be more pleased all things considered. To date I've yet to see a 1440p panel on any laptop running at 120hz and it also kinda more so justifies getting the amplifier later. If you'd like to see my new thread I'm currently having an issue using Intel RST on a desktop with Optane memory if you could help, I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers!

OverC1ockeD reacted to Kisai in Need to order M.2 Mounting Bracket
What's this bracket for? Most M2 drives are secured using a single screw. Even in laptops. In laptops however the exterior of the drive (in ultrabooks) or a small heat spreader clips it down, there's nothing underneath it.

M2 drives can have chips on the front or front and back, which means that to mount a heatsink/spreader on these, there needs to be something to hold it down the part closest to the M2 slot itself, or slide onto the edge of it.

I did a search for what this bracket is for, and I kinda went "that's stupid"

    https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/how-to-install-two-m2-ssds-in-raid-0-on-maximus-ix-motherboards/

It's to use a specific M2 slot that has a VERTICAL mount. That's just asking for something to land on it and snap the socket off.

So that's a proprietary part if I've ever seen one.

Definitely make sure if it's on a cooling loop to drain the coolant. Last thing you need is to send hazardous material through mail without them knowing. Make sure they know 100% of what is in it and make SUUUUURE you know their PACKAGING REQUIREMENTS. I had someone ship a car part, with bubble wrap everywhere, practically crated, secured & they wouldn't cover a broken cam shaft crank because "packing peanuts" weren't in it.

3DVision is pretty much dead at this point.

Wait for the Acer X27 if you want 4K HDR at 144hz.

If you want to move to the ultrawide masterrace world, wait for the ASUS PG35VQ. 3440x1440 Gsync 200hz HDR right there. Curved too.

Both monitors are guaranteed to cost a kidney.

Always remember that nothing is obsolete to you until it stops doing what you want it to do or starts bottlenecking your new components. You can buy the most expensive CPU on the market, give it six months to a year and it'll be surpassed.

I'm an Intel all the way kind of person, as for the mobo Asus makes the absolute most stable boards I have ever used and they have the lowest failure rate. Coffee Lake would be my recommendation, if not the good 'ol i7-7700K, because if you're gaming you should of course put all the money into your GPU's as you won't see a huge difference in a lot of games before four cores with HT.
