It's exactly as the title says. I have an Asus Maximus IX Formula motherboard and am (finally) nearing completion with my final upgrades but unfortunately as things always turn out to be at the last moment after moving to a new home I can not locate the parts that came with the mounting bracket. Since I am already missing the screws I'd rather have the black screws anyway. Ironically I have the bracket itself but unfortunately, for whatever reason in the world, they must have put those insanely small screws and M.2 holder in a separate tiny bag because I can't locate them anywhere. I will keep searching in the meantime but if anyone know where I can just order this and get it immediately as opposed this needle in a haystack search I would be most appreciative Picture of exact parts needed for the bracket here and like I said if I have to order the entire bracket again to get it all that's fine. I'd prefer the black screws that came with it anyway.

Call asus.  I doubt anyone else would have it anyway.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

What's this bracket for? Most M2 drives are secured using a single screw. Even in laptops. In laptops however the exterior of the drive (in ultrabooks) or a small heat spreader clips it down, there's nothing underneath it.

M2 drives can have chips on the front or front and back, which means that to mount a heatsink/spreader on these, there needs to be something to hold it down the part closest to the M2 slot itself, or slide onto the edge of it.

I did a search for what this bracket is for, and I kinda went "that's stupid"

It's to use a specific M2 slot that has a VERTICAL mount. That's just asking for something to land on it and snap the socket off.

So that's a proprietary part if I've ever seen one.

It’s an interesting concept though.  There are a lot of boards that have vertical m.2 designed for wifi cards.  One of these could lengthen it into something big enough to put a drive into and would save space on itx.  Might see more of these.

Yeah, I think for this to work the ATX chassis design really needs to have a standoff or two underneath it (eg at that 90 degree angle) that aligns with the MB, but that might limit flexibility to people using 3.5" drive bays since most chassis either put them under the MB or to the front of the chassis if they're shorter. If this is the direction the MB manufacturers wish to go, I hope they standardize on a position on the MB like the ISA/PCI/PCIe slot's have.

Yep, that is exactly what I need. I found the bracket itself but need the screws and the special rubber...umm...grommet? I guess that's what you could call it...whatever it's called that installed at the end to secure the M.2 drive. After tireless searching I've yet to come across one I could just order. Which is crazy because this is a very small and easy to lose part to boot. I guess I'm unavoidably going to have to call Asus in the morning. Ugh. Thanks, everyone!

Rubber washers I think.  Screws could be findable if the size thread count, and pitch of the screws is known.  Size may be enough depending on the screw used

  • 3 weeks later...

They sent me a new brackets and screws and all. It's installed, but now I am dealing with a new issue. While Intel Optane and RST is enabled in the BIOS, the new problem is that it won't let me enable it. Error code 0xA0010005. Any idea what I should do now? I've tried like everything so far.

@Kisai might know something all I know about optane is more or less what it does. :/
Might even need a new thread.

It won't let you enable it Windows? You need to have the BIOS in RAID mode after you switch Windows to use RSTe

Basically:

Install the RST driver

boot into safe mode once

switch to RAID in the bios

boot into safe mode again

boot back to regular mode.

Same can be done to reverse it as long as no RAID array was setup. Single drive will work without a raid array setup. Optane itself requires the RAID mode, not a RAID array.

So from what I've seen apparently when I'm not wanting to run Optane on the master drive and I'm just using it on the slave drive to make games load faster I just use RST and choose the Optane drive. Is this right? The new and current issue I am having is I am trying to install an older version of Intel RST from Asus' site and it keeps saying I have a newer version installed. Please see my other new thread I started regarding this.

It's working. Deleted a prior cache partition I used with RST. Thanks!
