Pretty much any 12th or 13th gen i7 should do the trick for cpu, idk how important a discrete gpu for cad but if he can do without it should improve battery life a bit. over half of the engineers at my school are running xps 15's so that might be a good product line to look at

I kinda want to see a Cisco cat 9400 or some equivalent from another brand rather than a shit ton of Ubiquiti switches like we have been seeing lately. Probably gonna come down to sponsors tho

You are simply limited by network connection speed. You aren't going to change that by using different softwares or file transfer protocols.  Some times when doing upgrades like this you just have to suck it up and wait on the file copy to complete.

Work in progress. GPU blocks should be here Saturday, so hopefully finish the loop this weekend or early next week.

copper will eventually be painted / powder coated, playing with paints

flex tubing will reduce the total number of fittings you need compared to rigid which will help with costs some, but is still expensive AF

FrozenCPU.com is a good place to go for water cooling components (in the US at least).

    Custom loops are expensive.

When I was debating building a custom loop for my computer at home it came out to something like $300 minimum.

I just want to point out that Microsoft even sent out a patch to windows XP and server 2003, just to make sure even fewer people get it, so no, Microsoft is not stupid enough to make this.

You can set base and boost clocks you've found to be stable later in the BIOS so they are 'permanent' I've done this to my GTX 660. Just means it always hits an OC I knew that was good, all the time.

So you don't have to load the profile in the OC utility or dial it in.

You can also increase the power target in BIOS, volts and a few other things. Really its down to the card though.

MSI Afterburner is the preferred choice for most GPUs. I find EVGA Precision X better for my cards though.
