acv159357n reacted to QueenDemetria in How do you build your own router
Wow, it just came to me: I just realized that ISP's are doing that stupid rent/lease router "plan", and if you build one vs renting one then you won't have to pay those additional fees. I don't know if this is the case for OP, but it might be for some people lol.

Upgrade cpu, 100%. You're on a very old platform now. Newer cpu architectures and faster ram on a newer, more stable motherboard with possibly a newer psu would help you significantly

if all you do is gaming, get a 8600(k) or 8700(k). will almost definantly perform better in games, unless games are suddenly optimized for more than 6 (hyperthreaded) cores

unless you are using 1080Ti's or Titan Xp's or anything higher, pci-e 3.0 x8 won't bottleneck you. the 1080Ti is just scratching the limit of 3.0 x8 though

acv159357n reacted to Brooksie359 in which videocard to buy..??
you are clearly missinformed. he was saying you don't want to pair a cheap cpu with an expensive gpu because that can lead to bottlenecking. not simply because the price difference between the components is too much. if you had looked at the benchmarks they cleary chow that the Pentium doesn't bottleneck the gtx 1060 that much so it doesn't create the issue that linus was talking about.

acv159357n got a reaction from Brooksie359 in which videocard to buy..??
note how he was talking about something like the 1080, and not a upper-midrange card like the 1060.

acv159357n reacted to Brooksie359 in which videocard to buy..??
i was just about to suggest either a cheaper compact one or the gaming x if you can afford a bit more expensive one

acv159357n reacted to Brooksie359 in which videocard to buy..??
yeah everyone underestimates just how much of a good deal that cpu is. you really only get into bottlenecks at high framerates which if you have your games on high setting at 1080p wont even be achievable until you get into the gtx 1070 range anyways. i mean the Pentium is going to be pretty much good until you get past the gtx 1060 and the rx 480.

you just assume the Pentium is going to bottleneck those cards hard but the fast is the Pentium doesn't.
