    What CPU do you have?
What motherboard is it plugged into?
What game are you experiencing problems with particularly?

If you're dead set on Intel, don't buy last generation (Skylake) unless it's a super deal. If you have the budget, get the 7700k. Asus makes overclocking stupid easy with their oc tuner.

I won't straight out say more cores are better, generally the more cores you have, the more heat they put out to achieve higher clock speeds (6 at 4.5ghz would be hotter than 4 at 5.0ghz).

In a lot of today's titles 4 cores is plenty. Anything using older game engines will only use 1 or 2 cores.

I like the future upgradeablity on the am4 platform, but I'm not entirely pleased with the current performance of their cpus in gaming. I don't create content, the largest multi-thread workload i do is turning my dvd/blu-ray collection digital.

Even though I'd have to change the entire motherboard, I feel safer with a 7700k for a few years. Not many well known/trust worthy sites or youtubers are testing cpus with GTX 1060s to prove the 1600 can use the 1060 equally to the 7700k and vice versa.

c please, nobody uses f when talking about computer temps.

leave side panel open to see if shit airflow
    dont overclock your cpu
undervolt it by a bit to lower temps
get better cables, becuase the gauge is too large and its conducting too much electricity.

as themctipers mentioned, sounds like it could be the motherboard.  Do you have a spare PSU laying around, though?  If you do, I would try plugging it in, or see if a friend has a spare you can borrow for that purpose.

He said 188f max, then reistalled it and is at 210f. 212f is 100c. I may have been wrong about the idle, but 100c is not normal.

remember linus has spoken on this a few times mainly focusing on the Corsair AF/SP fans and he's said a few times that the SP move the same amount of air as the AF and have the benefit of been way better for Rads and tight spaces, in short, just buy the SP ones all the time and use them for what ever you want.

Currently have a 525gb MX300 in my rig, no complaints and its a great value. Don't know about the caddies.

Yeah for $120-150USD the Crucial MX300 is probably the best, I own 3 MX300's and am very happy with them. Better read and writes than a lot of the more budget friendly SSD's on the market.
The other good one would be the Sandisk X400 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/J4s8TW/sandisk-internal-hard-drive-sd8sb8u512g1122
If it was me I'd be choosing between those two.

the thickness of the 2.5inch HDD will be the only concern _IF_ the SSD caddies have an upper lip that limits thickness - you'll need to find a picture of the caddy to check probably.

Even if the SSD caddy does have a limit on thickness, it will probably be 12.5mm - so look for HDD's thinner than that...

EDIT:  Umm... maybe not: the upper lip on the SSD caddies on my Corsair Crystal 570X are 9.5mm - but will still fit most HDD's.   https://www.wdc.com/content/dam/wdc/website/downloadable_assets/eng/spec_data_sheet/2879-771435.pdf

Np.   I notice WD maxed out at 1TB in 2.5inch.
Seagate seem to have 2TB ones though ... http://www.seagate.com/www-content/datasheets/pdfs/mobile-hddDS1861-2-1603-en_AU.pdf
