After many years (I’m 36!) I finally have a nice rig!!!! gigabyte 1050 2gb and fx-6300, 8gb ram, 500w psu, m5a79l-plus/usb3 mobo. It’s taken me a long time and I know it’s “old” but you guys have no idea how happy I am. And it’s got RGB!!! I know that you all have better rigs, but I am so honoured to just be able to say that I am finally a (fairly) capable pc gamer!! 😍😍

I wouldnt have been immediately alarmed since 9900K is soldered and you do have to take a knife to the die to clean it. Since you can actually sand down the die and it still works i dont think surface blemishes would be enough to kill it.

Managed to get a good deal for an AIO. Enermax Liqmax II 240mm,finally got rid of that unbearably loud 80mm EKL cooler, peace and quiet

Temps are fine, dropped from high 70s to low to mid 60s at Aida64 stress tests while being soooooo much quieter.

Personally not too keen on X99. Don’t feel like paying around $600 here in EU for another 6 core that’s barely better than my current one. Same goes for 8 core which isn’t much better.

Also found a 7980xe for $650 and X299 UD9 for $250. With RAM I would barely exceed my budget.

    Yo!

This thing went on hold, parts completely changed, but here it is,coming along nicely

    New parts list:
    Ryzen 3 1200(waiting for 2600)
    16GB 3000mhz ram
    B350M Bazooka
    FSP 700w
    some RGB strips
    Thermaltake fans.

Since this case has no cable management options at all,I will make some sort of a psu shroud out of acrylic, but on top, which will also serve as a 3.5" drive mount, boot drive will be some sort of an m.2 drive.

    Hi lads,long time no see.

After looking at some videos on youtube,linus,kyle... I decided to build one sleeper pc as well.
Had an old case that belonged to my late father,so i decided to build in it. Pretty crappy,no cable management at all, filthy beige exterior, perfect

    Parts:
    i7-6700 non K sku
    8GB Ballistix DDR4 2400 speed
Gigabyte H110-D3A(crap,i know, but will suffice for now)
    MSi Gaming X GTX 1070
    120GB Adata SP550 m.2 SATA SSD
    LC Power 240mm AIO
    Corsair HD120 fans
Antec 500w PSU(replacing that soon as well as the motherboard)

Here are some pics, gotta manage those cables somehow today, buy some 120mm dust filters, and make some sort of feet for the case Hope you like it. BTW,sorry for the crappy pics, dropped my phone from first sotry of the apartment, died instantly

    Update #29 December 31, 2019
So all the best plans can always have some hiccups.

The 90 I was planning on using, the one out of the rad, turns out was leaking quite a bit. It was one of those re-branded type fittings and is the second that has leaked on me which is why I never really used them for critical points in the loop like over a gpu. So time for a redesign.

Yep that’ll work. I guess the paint isn’t fully cured yet either since some of it has flaked off from the plastic clips. I ended up drilling another hole on the other side of the case and just ran a tube through it cus really who’s gonna lift my system just to check how my drain port works.

This is how the tube will be stored under the case so it’ll be totally stealthed. I don’t have a drain valve just a plugged fitting. My plan is to just pinch off the hose then pull plug out to drain the system. It’s worked find for me in the past so why make it more complicated?

Plus these only cost a couple dollars anyways.

Before getting the drives and res in I put some black car edge trim over the jagged parts that I cut away. That hose coming from the top is actually coming from the fill port and not the top of the rads. The way i connected the 2 rads together is probably the tightest tubing run I’ve ever seen/done I’ll put a pic below.

All parts are in. Now I know what you’re thinking. why in the world would you put a 2.5″ 5400rpm hard drive in this system? Well, I actually have an ssd on the way and a family member will be bringing it tonight for New Years when they visit.

This is my tube routing, it’s as short as I can get the tubing runs but I’m not 100% sure about the layout. None of the tubes really cross too much. I’m not even sure how else I could change it. But I really love that EK matte black tubing.

Pretty easy to fill this loop. You may also notice that there’s no front I/O and well since I removed it 5 years ago I haven’t missed it at all. At my last place I actually had a USB extension mounted to the underside of my desk which is really all I needed for this pc. Now I have a usb port on my keyboard so I don’t even need the under desk usb port.

Here’s all the old tubing which I will keep most of for just in case and other stuff and the 2 old rads.

Sorting through the mess of wires while I bleed the bubbles out of the loop.

The almighty commander pro. Surprisingly one of my favorite purchases for my pc. While it’s not perfect it does pretty much what I need it to do. It’ll also work with my 2 Phobya in line temp sensors. It also adds 2 usb headers behind the mobo tray if I want to add things later.

Well she ain’t pretty at the back but she works.

But aww man look at that front. Does it ever look clean. What do you think?

Transferring the files off the old hard drive onto the new WD NVMe.

Well until I get my SSD I’m gonna hold off on doing glamour pics. I also have a new mic for my setup which I’ll probably do a whole setup picture as well.

Let’s face it , blower style coolers are louder and push less air than traditional coolers, they ok to get rid off air outside of the case but that’s it. You can of course try to repaste it but don’t expect amazing temps and silence from it. Just my two cents

Yep,definitely is. I believe its a polish company. Also bought one of theirs 500w 80+ bronze power supplies for a budget build I did,no issues there. Nice, flat black cables.

Also did some overclocking on 3930k,managed to get 4.6ghz with 1.26V. Everything higher had a diminishing return, not much of an improvement but it required a LOT of voltage for 4.8ghz,and I am limited with mediocre air cooler.

    Performance in games improved massively.

Project Cars 2,1080p,maxed out,230ish fps avg
Titanfall 2,maxed out, engine capped at 144fps,no drops whatsoever.

Gonna test some more games later.

    i7 3930k
    16GB Hyper X Genesis
GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X Trio
    Some RGB stuff ?
    Corsair HX1000i power supply
    Patriot Burst 240GB SSD

    Looks quite decent

Future plans are getting an AIO and overclocking the CPU a bit,so I bottlenecks a bit less

@filippalfi Great build! I see that ur using Armis AR5 TG RGB if I'm not wrong. I'm happy that SPC is becoming more and more popular cause it has great value products. Myself I'm using their AR7X TG RGB and it's great!

Great seeing old high end boards get new life. It'll really come alive when you get a decent overclock going.

There's still a bunch of people on X58 and X79 around here, they're amazing platforms really. If you shoot for 1440p/4K you'll leverage that 1080ti perfectly fine, I get about the same performance in games as my buddy with a Ryzen 1700 with a GTX 1080 on X58/Westmere. Even better is when you're done using it for yourself, HEDT platforms make great home servers too!

    I know there's a fairly popular X58 thread and a X99 thread but I'm not sure if there's a X79 thread.
