i should also say that selling the existing parts for a bit more budget isn't a good idea, because this will be his onyl computer and he also needs it for school. should something suddenly break i want him to have spare parts.

i picked it because it was che cheapest tbh, we're at €611 total rn and his budget was €600 max, but he said this is fine still. i don't really wanna go much higher.

ok so my brother needs some significant upgrades.

    his current build:
    i3 7100
    B250M-DS3H (iirc)
    8GB 2400mhz DDR4 (2x4gb)
    GTX 1050
    Corsair TX550M
    random ssd and hdd
    Thermaltake Vesa H13 case

he wants to play games like Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon Wildlands, among others on all ultra at 1080p 60fps. this machine currently can't do that.
he also does some game development/programming on the side, as well as some video editing.

i was looking for parts to upgrade this machine and i want to go AMD for him, but i want this list to be looked over one more time because i'm familiar with AMD up to AM3+, i know nothing about AM4.

    new build:
    AMD Ryzen 3600
    included cooler
    MSI B450M PRO-VDH
MSI GTX 1660 Super Ventus XS OC
    Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3200mhz DDR4 (2x8gb)

    parts that will remain:
the ssd and hdd, both are still working fine i see no reason to replace those.
the Corsair TX550M, again still works fine and 550W should be enough for this right?
the case. i might put some front intake fans in it because currently it only has rear exhaust installed, is that a good idea?

Safari eventually frees up the memory on its own. It doesn't actually cause the system to slowdown. Just the web page itself. I also kinda exaggerated the extent of the problem.

That's not how it works. If you want two monitors with different outputs, you need two physical outputs from the laptop or a usb-c docking station that creates that. You can also connect a USB-C DP monitor that has a DP output port to link to a second DP monitor as another option. Check your laptop, you might actually have two video outputs already in some configuration.

Also, if you're having to update Windows more than once per day, something isn't working as it should.

500 watts in generally enough, but before we start tossing out parts, let's see if the parts are actually bad first

Unplug everything that's not required to POST. Go with only 1 stick of RAM, unplug all the fans (just to check, obviously not the CPU/GPU fan) unplug all drives etc, and see if you can get a reliable POST.

If you can, then your power supply isn't providing enough power.
If you still have issues, then it's likely a mobo.

looks like windows might not be detecting the correct resolution. Im guessing the next button is on the lower right but the screen is zoomed in because of the wrong resolution. once you connected to the internet, just wait for a bit and then restart after about 30 minutes. windows might be able to download the correct drivers and then show you the screen properly. if that does not help, try unplugging the monitor and then plugging it in again. if that does not work, try another hdmi port if you have one

Ashley xD got a reaction from bmx6454 in Okay, will this old tv work with my retro consoles
uuuh no it's not expensive? you can just use a VCR for that. at least where i live you can since all our VCR's have a SCART input that you can plug consoles into and it will output on RF.

he probably meant the thing in the pictures that converts the Coax RF to the terminals you connect to the tv where the antenna would normally go. it's not sueful for connecting consles unless the consoles you are using can output on RF. if they can't you'll need to use something like a VCR to convert the signal first.
