A co worker of mine built a 9700K hackintosh system for his photo and video work. He used a dark rock pro 4 and is not overclocked and sees temps in the 70s-80s when the machine is working. So to me that would be a good starting point. I wouldn’t consider a 212 or a 212 clone.

I know what I’m about to say is very taboo, but look for a cooler that can deal with 250w and up.

Wow.  That’s some heat. The dark rock pro is not a small cooler.  250w is sort of the top end of big air.  If that is required then water is the only way.

Even 12s may be overkill.  I’ve got a viperX on a 4770k@4ghz and it is overkill (6 pipe cooler)  One really rough and fairly inaccurate way to gauge air coolers is count the heat pipes.  It’s not accurate because all heat pipes are not created equal. Copper>aluminum, sintistered interior>woven interior, woven>grooves, and large diameter>small diameter.  So a few big sinistered copper heat pipes whale all over a bunch of small grooved aluminum ones

12s is five medium large sinistered copper pipes.  A good 4 pipe would likely be enough.  There are advantages to overkill in air as there are in water but they can be even more severe. With enough overkill you can run a 120mm fan under 800rpm and still get torture test temps under 70c.  That’s what I get.  Load temps for me are high 50s low 60s.  Too much cooling basically.  It’s so quiet tough the loudest thing is the hard drive.  Or was till I got a new GPU

Le Grand Macho  RT. All of the performance of a D15, no ram blockages.. same goes for True Spirit 140 Power. All of the performance of a D15, for fifty bucks.

Isn’t the 7700k the same speed as a 3300x?  A big cooler won’t be needed for a cpu that small.

The deal is will it fit ina case.  Another issue is will there be ram clearance.  Cases, ram, and coolers all have their various heights listed somewhere.  If a device doesn’t have the appropriate height listed (it’s usually in millimeters) then find the same make and model on another site and see if it’s listed there.    Pcpartpicker and Newegg both tend to have fairly complete product descriptions.  Newegg does tend to hide theirs behind a button but they generally have them.  If the listed width of the case is more than the listed height of the cooler it will fit.  If the listed height of the ram is less than the max ram height for the cooler it will fit.

The pro version is bigger so you could have slightly better temps.

Hi, so I have a 1440p 155hz monitor, which would be great, if I could play games at that res and refresh rate. But I have an underpowered laptop that can do 1440p 60FPS medium in less demanding games like Fortnite and TABS. So I’m looking to get 1440p 155FPS at close to ultra settings in Fortnite, while streaming. It looks like I’ll need at least 1080ti and other hardware that won’t bottleneck it. So I’m looking to build a pc with these parts. I’ve watched a lot of LTT but never actually build a pc before. : )

I also want to be able to do a lot with virtualization and video editing, so a ryzen cpu seems to make the most sense.

So is this a good build for what I want to do? Are there any possible issues?

I would just like to apologize to everyone I have hurt or upset or simply become harsh on threads.  I certainly am not a super guru like some of you but I have been with computers since commodore days in the 80's.  My old man got us into computers and he would use prodigy and had a 2400 baud modem connecting to bank and doing all the stuff and what not.  Anyone I have upset a couple users recently and I want to personally apologize to them and to any others for being harsh or being off with my help or suggestions.  I have made a promise I will from now on double and triple check what im posting before I hit the button.  The last controversial post I made was a R5 3600 and 5700XT.  One of the guru members got upset with me, but I didn't take it personally perhaps he was trying to help me and refrain with some of my posts.  I am a little harsh but I promise the community they have nothing else to worry about from me.  I love this place and it is not like I come with a vendetta to upset people or tell people to upgarde this or that or cry bottlteneck.  Anyhow thank you all for your kindess and forgiving me of some of my actions.  Especially thanks to fiberdipper and to mod Slottr.  I love you all and again I will refrain from posting rather post something controversial and what not.  Thanks again to all.  GB

ide send it back and change who you buy from tbh, thats a hell of alot just for a lappy and i have a friend who uses his for massive 3d renders, he broke his warrenty cause it was cheaper just to buy a ssd and a extra 4gb chip than it would of cost him to send it back, 2 year later an hes still pushing the old girl, now with a external GPU but still, if that was me ide send it back as said and just buy a base unit with what i needed longing it was above what i needed.

Look at the reviews, people post videos there to showcase the microphones, since they are a no name brand you wouldn't find that kind of test anywhere else (or maybe you can idk)

I bought this one recently on a recommendation from someone else: https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Microphone-Omnidirectional-Smartphones-Cancelling/dp/B016C4ZG74/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=lapel+mic&qid=1555084262&s=electronics&sr=1-4

But to be honest, I feel like most of them are likely going to be the same as long as there's a significant number of positive reviews.

You can't upgrade, you have to replace the Board as well.
And since you already have something decent, it makes sense to wait and see what AMD has in store later this year...

80s is ok, the cpu throttles at 100C, most people like to keep it under 80 at full load, but 85ish won't murder it any time soon

Getting PCIE NVMe across USB is pricey. I'd strongly suggest using another system with an available M.2 slot to recover your data; selecting appropriate boot drive on another machine should absolutely work just fine.

It's not uncommon for people with even legit listings to just find a random photo from online (ebay automatically attempts to find photos for you I think)
Now, it doesn't help the case, and at that price it is almost 100% a scam, but that alone wouldn't make it a scam.
