jt999 got a reaction from TopHatProductions115 in WatchOS 5.1 bricking some Apple Watches
Apple released WatchOS 5.1 yesterday, and for some unlucky customers (including myself) the update appears to have bricked the Watch. Apple have now pulled the update, but as the Watch lacks any kind of DFU mode that a user can enter the customers already affected are somewhat at Apple's mercy.

I understand these things happen, but as a customer I feel that this should have been caught earlier - Apple are aware that the customer has no way to restore software to the Watch, and it needs that extra level of care when releasing updates.
Hopefully Apple deal with it swiftly, I have one of their engineers calling me shortly, although I doubt it'll actually help in this case aside from arranging me sending it in.

That sucks... still, 15h shouldn't be enough to cause significant burn in unless the panel is trash tier.

Version 4.0.0 - Floatplane.com Update, Fixes & More colours (GitHub)

    Release 4.0.0.zip
    Install.zip
    Update.zip

This release has some new settings which are covered in the Settings Guide.

This update completely rewrites a large majority of the core code for the script to use the new Floatplane.com site and its API. I heavily suggest doing a fresh install, your old videos should still work fine with this version so you don't need to redownload them.

To use the script from now on you have to be using a Floatplane.com account! Don't worry LinusTechTips.com form users though, you can create a new Floatplane account and then link your form account. For more info on how to do this go read the Installing the Script & Downloading guide.

Video category matching should be much better now that I am using the api, while Floatplane.com does not sort the videos directly into say Techquickie and TechLinked, it's much easier to do with access to the api.

    A short summary of Changes:
Changed login and authentication to use the new Floatplane.com Site. Read above for more info! Large rewrites to core code to  use the Floatplane.com API. Added more posters. Added support for new Floatplane.com creators without needing new updates. Rewrote all the detection code for organisation. Should be much much better now. Added more sexy colours. Removed youtube support.
    Changelog
    Install Guide
I heavily suggest doing a clean install for this version.

If your updating then just download the Update.zip extract it to your install folder and run it. It will automagically update all the needed files and move your settings over.I suggest double checking that everything is correctly updated in the settings.json though it should move your old settings over properly.

So they changed the naming for TechLinked to TL today... Here is a updated float.js file which will sort TechLinked correctly again:

    float.js

Just replace your one with the one above.
I'll update 3.8.3 with it later for people doing new installs later today.

jt999 got a reaction from MekaStrix in OLED or Nanocell
Every OLED TV I've seen, including my own 2017 model has some level of banding if you look close enough - but to be honest you don't notice it unless you're on a fairly uniformly grey scene (dark cloud for example). Others watching my TV don't notice it but I find myself looking for it and then cursing LG for all the money I spent.

OLED definitely isn't perfect, but the picture difference for me was worth the fairly unnoticeable banding, and I've never had an issue with any lasting screen burn (sometimes I've had it for a short period of time when I've had a bright static image on the screen for some time), a relative with a 2016 model has it quite badly though so it's not impossible - again you can't see it when it's in normal use from a normal distance though.

I can't recommend OLED enough, I'm so glad I made the switch, even if my bank balance wasn't so impressed!

That was the 3.4.0 Update... However That did and still does have a bunch of issues that were not fixed relating to bulk downloads and MAJOR issues with the update and install scripts, mainly due to them being the first version that I wrote yesterday... So There is actually another update coming quite soon... Will also overhaul the download info to look alot nicer. So you can look forward to that sometime soon...

that is not true, a VPN encrypts the whole internet stream, the router will only see that data is passing but will be unable to discern what that data is.

A VPN will solve all your issues, I use PIA they are fast, easy, and cheap.

Merry Christmas to everyone sorry its a bit late

Just a little update, if you get into a loop where the script cannot login or its constantly getting invalid cookies then this should fix it: v3.0.3_HotFix.zip

I just got into such a loop as the script wasn't clearing the generated cookies every time it got a invalid session causing issues. Though this seems to be a rare issue so most people shouldn't experience it.

Just a note that session stuff is still a bit buggy after the 3.0.1 update... Ill be working on a fix today hopefully, for now if you run into issues delete your cookies in the settings and have it regain them using your login.

Ok. The fix is out for it now on the github if you want to update your settings.js with the proper cookies.

Or you can wait till the new release which will probably happen in the next few days

I'll keep an eye on the cookie thing, thanks - I never actually had an issue with the cookies previously so I wonder if I will at all now (I noticed you didn't need as much of the cookie this time).
At the moment I have a scheduled task to run the batch file, it would be cool to have it run a different way but to be honest it's not a huge deal for me personally - the PC is on regardless so a scheduled task isn't exactly a problem

So far it's worked flawlessly (I did run into issues with ffmpeg not naming all the files, but that was due to my Stablebit Drivepool having the files locked, moving it all to a different drive fixed the issue, and not your scripts fault!), and improved massively on the v1 script, thanks so much for your hard work @Inrix

Thanks, also please do tell me if you and @tjcater think that the script is having issues with cookies more often now than it did before. (Where you have to open a floatplane form in a browser and then run it for it to work). I changed some cookies stuff and its all been working fine but I feel that maybe in doing so its missing something for longer term login stuff.

On another note, I do plan to do a addon in the future that allows you to have it running 24/7 on a computer and watch the discord notifications so it instantly downloads the video, do tell me if your interested. Other than that if you have any cool feature ideas/requests I'm all ears.

There are still a few little bugs I want to sort out and other features I want to add but its coming along very nicely.

    Version 2.0 Release

    @jt999 @tjcater
Version 2.0 is now out! And with a lot of fixes and a new settings.js file...

This was a large change to how cookies and other variables are dealt with. All the stuff that you would probably want to change is now contained within a settings.js file, with the exception of the settings for channels which is still contained within the main script.
This should let you do future updates without needing to change your cookies and other settings. I will say in a update if you need to update your settings.js file but otherwise you can just overwrite the main script and run "npm update" to be immediately updated.

    Changelog
    - Settings are now contained in a seperate file to make updating easier
    - Compressed required cookies down to a single line
    - Ability to set video folder in settings
    - Ability to set max videos in settings
    - Ability to set what channels to download in settings
    - Fix for ffmpeg not downloading
    - Support for channel super fun
    - Created a package.json file for easy updates
    - Added changelog.txt

PS: Thanks to @SeanCorrgs for telling me about some errors <3.

Cant put a fix out right now as catching a plane. But todays LTT video was not prefaced by anything and seems to have been sorted into BitWits library. For now just watch it there or manually rename its title in explorer.
