In what way was the OP an arrogant whiny baby? You're the cunt here. OP is being reasonable.

You can challenge a criticism, but in this case you don't have a counter argument. You're just stupid Why don't you defend linus instead of shooting down criticism. There are alot of times linus changed his video styles from video criticism for the better, and if it were for crybaby fangays like you he would never improve or grow.

If linus continues to be neglectant and ignore (which is not the case) his audience you think he would still have an audience?

We are aware things aren't perfect St the moment but making videos is what pays for the new studio to be built so we can't exactly put making videos on hold while we build it..
It is what it is and it will be better than ever and we will all forget this ever happened

I kinda agree with OP here it just bothers me a lot of people here can't take constructive criticism for the better. LMG is in the middle of moving and setting up the new office and pumping out quality videos can be pretty difficult. Yes the videos are free to watch, yes no one is forcing anyone to watch them but I truly believe keeping a standard of quality to keep your audience is key. That's why we have these forums. I've also noticed the lack of quality information especially in the new SKYLAKE video. I believe they could of been more thorough and put more effort into the video. Maybe they should stop trying to pump out a video a day and take time to make a amazing video every 3 days or something..

I created an account just to come on here and hopefuly attract Linus' attention. There are plenty of posts on YouTube about the poor quality of the last two videos, but as Linus has stated recently he doesnt read comments on YouTube anymore and is too busy to check the videos before they are uploaded.

I know you are in a half built studio, but that's no excuse for the poor quality of the videos being pushed out at the moment. I can only assume that the senior members of the team are oblivious to this (I hope).

    Examples:

In the video http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/437773-gtx-480-video-card-drivers-then-vs-now/ the following things are easily noticable

    Sound out of sync
    Background poor
Lighting of foreground terrible (Linus looks like a zombie - with green edges...)

    Sound out of sync
    Audio pops (multiple times)
    Sound of drilling in background
Sound of a torque wrench/driver being used (multiple times)

Multiple delivery mistakes by Luke, why wasnt it reshot or at least edited?

ygohome reacted to yzbd in Whats the benefit of having to Ethernet ports on your motherboard?
What benefits are there? I'll list a few below, however a Google search can give you a ton of useful things you could try.

    1) Failover protection.
    2) The "cool" factor.
    3) Double your bandwidth - not speeds.
    4) Turn your computer into a pfSense box!
    5) Loop-back?!

Overall, the average person or gamer has no need for dual ports. Reasoning: It will more then likely have 1-2 Reltek NICs, which are known for their evilness (not working correctly). You would also need to buy managed switch which could run you a few hundred bucks.

Just buy the best bang for your buck and don't worry about onboard NICs. You could also upgrade later with PCI card for extra NICs & features (signal, dual, or quad Intel NIC card. Always buy Intel PCI NICs or their OEM counterpart (Dell,IBM,HP,etc) which normally are rebranded Intel cards.

ygohome got a reaction from Guest in So Why Is Apple "The best" in some peoples eyes?
I don't consider Apple "the best", but I did purchase one of their laptops in 2009 and I've been very happy with that purchase.    My first apple product that I purchased was a max spec'd 2009 17" Macbook Pro.  I didn't even have an iPod.  My decision to select the Apple laptop over other brands of laptop was because I had always been curious/intrigued by Apple's computers and OS.   I'm currently 45 yrs old and I've worked in IT all of my adult life.  In other words it was not "simplicity" that attracted me to buy from Apple.

I remember when I was a teenager seeing the Apple retail stores in our local mall in the 80s.  The early Apple computers (ie Macintosh circa 1984) with their mouse and graphical UI really impressed me as a kid.   I made my decision to buy an Apple laptop because of fascination and because of those fond memories.  I was fascinated and desired for something new (new to me).  The 2009 MBP was not a slouch compared to other laptops of it's day.  But it was not an inexpensive purchase.  The 8GB RAM from Apple in mid 2009 was an additional $1000 option.  So I spent a pretty penny on that laptop when I purchased it.

Would I buy another Apple computer today?  Nah.  Nope.   I'm no longer intrigued by their products.  My 2009 MBP is still working great and I'm using it this very moment and it has been incredibly reliable over the last 5+ yrs.  But I would not consider Macbook Pro  to be a "Professional grade" laptop as it's name suggests.   "Professional", IMO would be a mobile workstation with mobile Quadro that can accommodate more RAM and be more flexible with internal storage expansion.

Honestly the nicest two things I've to say about my 2009 MBP has been it's reliability and that has a *nix OS.  I think I've been somewhat lucky regarding the reliability I've had with it.  My neice bought a 2009 15" mbp laptop same time I did and hers is basically trashed.  But she is not very careful with her treatment of computers so maybe that accounts for it's condition.

I think there will soon be (soon = few months?) very interesting workstations coming out.  Lenovo for example will be releasing a few workstations using Intel's first mobile Xeon CPUs.  PCIe SSD (fast!).   64GB Ram!   $1599USD entry price.  Quadro workstation graphics perhaps with Maxwell architecture, which would be a first in a mobile quadro (all mobile quadro is currently keplar).

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/9503/lenovo-launches-new-p50-and-p70-mobile-workstations-with-first-mobile-xeon-chips

Dell's successor to the m4800 and m6800 is overdue and will probably be released soon too.  I'm expecting some cool tech from them in the m6900 (or whatever Dell names it).  Anyway, I'm waiting for the Dell.

Desktop will always outperform a mobile workstation, but for me and my needs (I travel alot) a mobile workstation is necessary.

i do agree with you and i have absolutely no idea as why this is like that...30FPS on playstation is not the same as 30FPS on my desktop PC, 30FPS on console is playable but on PC it feels like 10FPS to me.

This is something that has always had me curious. So obviously the graphics are much superior on PC, let's get that straight. But I have noticed that if I were to cap my frame rate on PC at 30 fps, it would look a hell of a lot choppier than 30 fps on a console version of that game. Is this because of motion blur uses on console and other foolery? I don't think I'm crazy because I can definitely tell the difference between 30, 60, 120, and 144 fps. But to me 30 fps on PC is atrocious while on console it is much more palatable. Can anyone give me a real explanation and does anyone agree?

N66U is a great router (I have it and I love it), but the OP is looking for an AC radio router.  N66U does not do AC.  Asus makes some great AC routers too though, I've read, but I haven't used them.  I like the samba and VPN server features they come with.

That said, the Asus router I have (n66u) does have wonderful coverage that my past linksys/cisco routers couldn't match.

ygohome reacted to totalgeek in Linus, review the Lego Computer
Hello, this is my computer system. It would probably be of some benefit to check out the build page, which has more details on the build and explains things more thoroughly. http://www.totalgeekdom.com/?p=1725

In regards to the airflow, if you look at the chart you linked, you'll see that there is indeed a case fan for intake, its a 140mm Noctua fan in fact. So the airflow is actually quite good considering the high CFM fan and such a small case volume. The cooling system is quite effective at removing heat quickly, and during testing performed very well during extended stress tests.

In regards to the price, I know I'm probably a bit biased, but I feel like the pricing is pretty fair. For example, here is a list of the component costs for the $999 version

    Motherboard = $150 CPU i3-4360 = $150 Memory = $70 SSD = $85 DVD/CD Drive = $35 CPU Cooler = $50 Wireless card = $30 Power Supply = $70 Case Fan = $20 LEDs + Controller = $25 USB Extensions + Wiring + Antennas =$35 Computer Parts Total = $720 Lego Bricks = $150 Total = $870
So for the cost of building the system, testing and configuring it I charge about $130 with that model. The computer is made up of a little over 800 pieces of Lego, so it takes a bit of time to go through and build a system.

In terms of performance I feel like there are few if any computers out there that offer the performance in that small of a form factor, for the price range it's in. You'd have to look at something like a Mac Mini in terms of form factor (though the Lego Computer is taller), but in comparison that Mac Mini costs quite a bit more and does not offer anywhere near the performance level of what the i7 version offers.

The hotswap bays are really nice addition to the server for easily making rotating system backups.  I rotate through my bare HDDs each time I make a backup.  If a backup is damaged or corrupted (ie if backup HDD fails) I can go to the next most recent backup HDD to restore.  The hotswap bays were very inexpensive too at about $18 USD each (made by StarTech).

The bays are not enclosed though so I must keep system wires (PSU cables etc) away from the bay area.  Else, if you remove a HDD a cable could dangle into the slot area, preventing me from inserting the HDD next time.  But that is not a real big deal if using proper cable management to keep that from being an annoyance.

*note:  not a bad setup considering this case is probably the cheapest antec makes (think I paid about $20 for it in 2013).

So IF we decide to continue to do unboxings, you can bet that we'll find a way to do it that is more appealing to our entire audience.

I believe you are right.  Although there is a difference between piracy and blocking adds.  While they are both moral choices, Piracy is typically against the law and although they may not always enforce it, they certainly could and do enforce it sometimes.  With pirating, most people could probably get away with it or get a slap on the wrist (and so they only see it as a moral choice).    Blocking ads is a moral choice but not against any laws, at least not that I am aware of.

I would love to see a video, or even forums post that is a "software tools we use at Linustechtips." For example, heres what we love for testing RAM, heres how we stress test our processors, here's what I use to clock the speed of my shiny new dual 10 gigabit network connection.

I am sure this could be diligently  pieced together by watching every video and writing it down but still!
