Hell, push certain workloads hard enough and compromises may need to occur at stock clocks.

Everything is so damn subjective with overclocking that it's almost a complete waste of time talking about them from a comparative stand point.   We've all been around the community long enough to realize who's making shit up and who's sincerely sharing impressive findings.  I choose to try to avoid the bullshitters as they consume too much of my time.

Yeah but see, I can't help but feel that's moving the goal posts back and forth when it comes to the definition. In that case, it could well be a personal definition, and that's fine, that's what I'm getting at. If you express your personal definition, I'm totally cool with that. Especially when it comes to hardware, or hardware reviews, even if they have any kind of arbitrary definition of stability, I'm cool with that, as long as they express it beforehand. And I'm fully aware that this looks like the advent of yet another etymological argument, but I sure hope not

There's also neutral stability, negative stability, positive stability. Parasitic drag, induced drag, adverse yaw, Vs, Vne, Vno, Vso, initialisms, acronyms, more initialisms and acronyms for ever, until the end of time.

You and me both.  Scary to think that there's some AVX-512 goodness yet to be uncovered.

The only issue I have is when people imply or intentionally mislead people with their bold claims.  "My 5960x is stable at 5 GHz" as an example.  Is it?  Sure it is for Cinebench loads.  I'm not exactly being very honest when I give an example of one of my OC profiles for a specific use case without clarifying that use case.

I generally find that those who provide the least amount of information when posting about their high overclocks or starting their "I've got a silicon lottery winner" threads are generally full of shit.  This usually comes to light after exhaustive probing of information that eventually leads to uncovering a gloat based on partial truth.  It's like this game of "I'm going to post this unbelievable shit until someone calls me out on it".  I simply choose not to play their game so much anymore.

Yup. It's why I use varying FFT lengths of Prime95 when stressing my system. 48k for stressing thermal solutions, 1344-2688 for vcore (constant load fluctuation), 512-4096k for memory and I/O lanes, etc. Even doing all of this, nothing really beats actually testing the type of load you intend to use the hardware for. I've had GPU overclocks that passed Furmark, completely fail on Overwatch a few hours in. Never hurts to throw several hours of real-world stress at it.

Get out of here with your on-topic discussions. This is a philosophical overclocking-thread only. Speak your personal definition of stability as if it is fact, or get lost!
