    You got the truth.

You didn't like it so you chose not to believe it.

Nothing more can really be done.

Just gonna lock this since clearly there's nothing more I or my team can achieve by responding to this.

Now Ridley has spoken. Can we please get back to slagging Apple off (just because) and stamping our feet at Nvidia, over this laboriously slow trick of RTX information.

Can't believe all the cuffuffle over this week's WAN show.  Seriously ever since Luke went to Floatplane. The WAN show has taken on a new style/dynamic.  Often enough when Linus is a host he will be joined by James.  Even Dennis had a go and now Ridley.

Go back and watch the banter Linus and James had on there first outing.  Linus treated him the same, with general on screen banter and putdowns.  I remember Linus looking peeved or even annoyed that James was wearing those rediculas Laser Glasses, hence a legend was born.  Fast forward a few WAN shows you can see James is much more comfortable hosting with Linus.  Giving as good as he gets.

In my opinion The Goat comment shocked Riley far more, than the Anthony statement.

Can't wait to see who hosts the next show after their workation.

Hope the negative comments are NOT the final straw.  Linus could easily decide the WAN show has run its course. He could just hand the hosting reins to someone else....

    Peace out.

This, right now somewhat older, guide still holds up.
But basically, most the difference comes from the comfort and size of a mousepad and than the surface material can increase or decrease the speed you can move your mouse at, but a mousepad is far from the most important thing in determining how good your mouse movement will be.

See if there is a newer version of the software from Asus website.  I know they keep revising the modules incorporated in the program.

I hope version 3 is better that 1 and 2 (which I thought very buggy and bloaty).

I now set fan curves  and overclocks in the BIOS and use Corsair Link software for monitoring tempts and voltages.

Far less hassle that AL suite, in my humble opinion.

That is exactly why lots of people dislike Windows 10.  Has a habit of forgetting certain configurations.  I plugged an USB microphone in this morning and it made it default sound-out device wtf.  Does this with monitor refresh rates as well.  You can do that windows-key p to change device it will be fine, do it in display options it will not remember refresh rate, bizarre.

Sometimes you just get a bad install.  Or installing one program before another has a detrimental effect.

Now the poop has really hit the fan after this meltdown/spectre issue.  I'm sure we are in for even more bizarre issues.

I had thought about this as well, however I'm not sure this is the route I'd want to take. More halo fans would definitely look pretty cool, but functionally I'm not sure it would make sense. Intake = sucking hot air from PSU shroud in to case, exhaust = sucking the cool air at the bottom of the case out. This is why I'm leaning more towards something purely aesthetic.

I like the idea of more figurines, however I can't really find anything else that would match my theme. I'm struggling to come up with a unique idea outside of more collectibles. My current theme is red, with plenty of red lighting coming from LED strips and fans. I'm going with Hellraiser/Pinhead in this build, with a 6" Pinhead doll. I'm thinking maybe just a bunch of nails on the left to fill in the space.

LoL This is a serious topic guys.....not.

I kind of suffer empty case syndrome too.

Seems silly that 99% of cases come with 99 slots for drives (slight exaggeration),
So I removed the bottom 2 drive cages for better air flow.

It looks like a waste of space.

In the end there was a place for a floor mounted fan, which i hooked up to the header on GPU proving airflow when it heats up,
That helps fill the space a bit.

Qi_Forever got a reaction from Changis in How do I REALLY avoid static while building?
A number of years ago I used get static shocks very regularly from metallic objects at work.  Cowering before I touch things and then yelping like a little helpless puppy when shocked was not a professional look.  So I sort help.

One of my friends mentioned it was my shoes, I scoffed at the idea.

However if you ever read the featured on the souls of your new  Dr Martins or work safety shoes.   You migh just see 'Static protection' listed as a feature of the product.

So moral of the story is, wear good static dissipating shoes, keep touching your earthed case/psu, or  even your homes central heating its all metal and  most certainly earthed.

Off on one please ignore this part:
I kind of wanna say do not wear synthetic materials for some reason (like Nylon, polythene) however natural materials would insulate you having the opposite effect.

So rubber boots bad, rubber gloves good.

File transfers could be saturating the USB channel/resources.
If you go into Device manage and view by connection you can see if they are using same lanes.

Try find a USB slot that is not shared with anything else.  Some mice use Virtual Keyboards for extra features and buttons.  The use  addition system resources too.

I have had unresponsive mice and flickering webcams due to overloading one root.

I'm already using the dedicated mouse USB channel, although I do have a slight thought that it may be interference from my portable hard drive spinning up. I've moved my hard drive away from the mouse and moved the receiver to another port just to be sure and it seems to be working fine now.

    Thanks for your reply.
I went to the local computerstore and the clerk there told me the same.
Sell or repurpose the laptop and NAS. Buy an real dedicated server and i should be set for the future.

I have a lifetime Plex-pass so i could try to use the hardware transcoding on the NAS.

    I'll look into the R710

I wouldn't use your desktop and leave it on 24/7.

    The Pros for this system:
-You only have to worry about one system
-only one computer powered on vs 3
    -Powerful CPU for plex transcoding.

    Cons:
-this system will consume a lot of power being left on 24/7 because it is powering the CPU and GPU
-your website/plex/server is offline if you have to restart your computer (you often need to restart a gaming pc for installs/crashes/diagnostics)
-I'm not sure how well certain CPU intensive games will handle sharing CPU resources with a VM or two.

I would perhaps build out low powered server from used parts on ebay. you don't mention anything about what your requirements are for plex so I'm going to assume maybe 1-2 transcodes simultaneously, nor do you mention what you use for a webserver?
I built my first plex server for £250 without drives. It was a Pentium CPU with no GPU.

If you pay for a plex-pass you can download and install the hardware transcoding preview that uses the built in gpu on the CPU to transcode meaning you can get more power from a less powerful chip.

Getting an R710 is a good shout as you can do everything you need on one box that you can leave running 24/7 with a separate vm for webhosting on linux and plex on whatever you are comfortable with.

You should check out Nextcloud for file storage, lets you host your own cloud storage with desktop clients and mobile apps like dropbox or google drive etc. but is quite advanced to setup.
