Thanks for the reply. I'll go with the NItro+ then
I see and that's true. Maybe only the vega can fully use my screens freesync feature at that resolution. THanks for the input

Sapphire is always the best option for AMD cards, then XFX, then MSI, then everyone else.

Yeah mine has freesync, but it does not need freesync to achieve 75FPS

Doesn't the mini 1080 have bad cooling?

And yeah I guess I'll just go for the Vega 56 then. I was just trying to find reasons to justify not having to spend the extra $200, but then I guess it's unreasonable to expect the 580 to dish out a steady 60fps at that resolution for AC Odyssey

    Thanks for the replies guys

EDIT: Does anyone know who makes the best variant for Vega 56? i've heard great things about Sapphire and XFX for the 580, but what about the Vega 56? Is the Nitro+ a good card? I want something that's not super loud and runs cool. Thanks!

Not really I have a client running that card with his 1440p, the RX 580 was meant to compete with the GTX 1070 at 1080p higher frames anything at 1440 was ment to be turned down a smidge. If you intend to go 1440p 38inch wide what is the point of saving $200 and later in the year see tearing in newer games and since with your monitor has freesync it means you're freesync 2 capable as well the Vega 56/64 will serve you well.
You're welcome and best of luck with your system and have fun.

Will the 580 not run well at this resolution though? i don't mind turning down the settings. Plus I have seen a few videos on Youtube that shows 580's ability to run 1440p, and it appears that it's able to maintain a 40-50fps in some games

@Settlerteo Waiting a few months is not an option because I am not even sure how long the free game bundle promotion will last. It's one of the biggest reasons why I'm even considering buying AMD lol

AMD new cards(probably mid-tier but still better or same at worst performance with vega 56, btw they claim gtx 1080 performance) are going to be out pretty shortly. So one option is to wait a few months. But to answer in your first question, yes you will need a vega 56 for decent performance in the ultrawide.

First off check if your monitor supports freesync it'll help a bit, secondly the RX 580 can push at max 1440p at 60fps I would suggest that you go for the Vega 56 but if your screen isn't freesync enabled I'd suggest you go for a GTX 1080 zotac has a mini version that isn't a electric vampirecand is pretty compact

you can probably run it, but you will have to turn down the settings. wait and see if anything comes out this october. if not just go for the best you can afford.

Gigabyte's SIV fan control isn't great. I have a similar issue with a secondary system and have to start up their In-Windows SIV app to engage custom fan speeds.
It's normal for coolers to be particularly tight and take a bit of pressure during installation for good cooling.

You can download it on the motherboard's webpage under Utilities. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z370-HD3-rev-10#support-dl
Smudging the paste is fine as long as the cooler was evenly mounted and the paste spreads over the cpu.

If gaming's your only use, you could look at used 7700's and b250 board. That's gonna be way cheaper than buying 8th gen new.

If used isn't your style though, and you're not planning on doing any OC and want to save, you will have to wait a while as only the premium Z boards for coffee lake are out, H and B are coming later this year.

It will be cheaper of course, since they are lower end models. I'd expect B360 to be around $80 at launch, slowly dipping to $60. H chipsets one will be even cheaper. Of course they do lose a few things. B360 mobo will be Z370 ones without the ability to overclock, use SLI or use MCE (allows all CPUs to reach max turbo speed on all cores while normally it will only be 1 core, which is insane, and why only Z370 can use it). H chipsets will be B360 with even less features, like reduced PCIe ports, SATA ports, USB type C, something like that.

Not just the Z370's problem, but the entire 8th gen platform. Rumour has it that 8th gen will not be compatible with 9th gen, which breaks the old rule of 2 generation compatibility.

Patience is really a good thing. 8th gen's competitor, AMD's Ryzen, will be releasing its refresh models in April. They are (my guesses here) a bit worse in games (Still a lot better than your 4690k, for sure), but much cheaper.

GTAV/GTAO and Witcher 3. I don't think I've experienced such load times for other games though

Thanks for the reassurance. I really do hope this is the case. Steam has absurd policies against account-sharing and whatnot, though I really hope my situation does not fall into the category of "account-sharing" when it's just a mere purchase

Yeah TBH, 2x 1070 is just TOO overkill for 1080p, let alone the UW 1080p. I really recommend just jumping onto 1440p. YOu'll love it. Plus, the GSYNC is amazing on games like Witcher 3. Thats just me though, I have a g1 1080 and a x34 and I dont think I can really go back to my LG34UM65 (1080P) as the difference is actually quite big imo

I live in Toronto and the FE ed. for 1080s are $919 before taxes....so subvendor may cost more or less, who knows, but the markup is apparent.
