    hm... it's been a while since I posted somethin…

I've got a 1070 non-ti very much like it. How's that for conversation!
  7. I love these ads. Probably works better when the user searches for "Decorative Spoons" or something, not "Concorde Engine"

Also, I love that the bottom ad says the types of Turbofan Turbojet Engines include "Fashion" and "Home & Garden".

Salesman:   "Sir, would you prefer a fashion turbojet engine, or a home or garden engine?"

Me:              "Well, I want it to look fashionable while it sits in my front garden outputting 169,200 newtons of thrust, so I suppose both. Do you supply mounting hardware as well?"

Salesman:   "Of course sir, we just need to pour a new foundation to prevent it from flying away."

    Me:              "Wonderful!"

My most entertaining ads came when Facebook had me identified as a 112 year old woman.  All of a sudden the Internet was covered in yoga pants.

  8. Dear everyday people who are uninterested in science,

When ideas change in science, that's a success. The very way progress in science is made is by trying to prove a hypothesis (think "theory" in everyday speech) wrong. When scientists fail to prove something wrong many times, everyone can be pretty sure it's true. But, science still might find something that describes the universe more accurately, proving the old way "wrong". In fact, something that cannot be disproved is not something that can be dealt with by science.
Newton found a way to describe motion that worked very well. Science hasn't been able to prove him wrong for everyday events, like apples falling from trees. But, Einstein changed the way we think about gravity on huge and tiny scales. He, in a way, proved Newton "wrong", at least in certain circumstances. What an achievement! I hope I could someday prove something wrong like that myself!

So, when scientists say "Well, we don't think that anymore, we think this now", don't see that as an issue; that science never finds anything exactly right forever. Instead, see that as another jump forward towards complete and perfect understanding. Think of how we now understand something better than we did. That is the only way we can progress in science.

You know, seeing the George Floyd ordeal being…

I've also been saddened to see people pushing to defund police. I think these issues with police are very real, but surmountable. Defunding police won't really bring about positive change. I've personally been trying to learn about the legal side of things, why police are almost never convicted (even in the worst of circumstances), and how things might be able to be improved. There must be a change to allow police to be held accountable. I don't have all the answers for how to do that, but I'm going to donate to some organizations that can help, and I've been vocal online where I can.

Didn't we just have a Black lives matter moveme…

If we do this every year, maybe we'll be one step closer to justice. If your house was on fire, you wouldn't say "Hey, weren't you spraying water on that house ten minutes ago?", you'd say "For fucks sake, put that fire out! Keep the water going!" (If you don't think the figurative house is on fire, there are a lot of books and documentaries being recommended. May be useful to check some out. Finally, I'm not one to throw around expletives. I just don't see the point, they loose their impact. I'm using one now.)
  12. I don't suppose this applies to older, already released ThinkPads? I'm running Ubuntu on my ThinkPad E455, but there are some WiFi driver issues, I wonder if this means they'll bring support for that sort of thing.

Fun game. Can you spot the fuckup? Layout: PCB:

    Something about the f6 key?
  14. Apparantly I am the sort of person to desire an iPhone 6 (or 6s) while having no wifi or cellular data avaliable. Also, my idea of new must be rather strange. Why else would you consider a lighting-ethernet dongle a hot new gadget?

Or am I not seeing this correctly? On second glance, is it actually ethernet? I feel that USB is somehow involved with the contacts on the right.

  15. That's fascinating! If I were to be super pedantic, the C-9 military variant of the DC 9 is entirely retired. But, that's as close as you can get to a prior retirement. Even all the McDonnell Douglas fighters still see some limited use.

    Its HUUUUUUGE

Whoa! Nice picture! That plane is always astonishing to me, I can't imagine what it must look like in person. I've seen a C5 and it's huge, so this must look even bigger (if that's possible).

Why does everything today have to be racial, ei…

I honestly don't see much self-hatred going around. Most of the issue isn't so much pure hatred of other races on the part of whites or non-whites (though hatred is a problem, one that must be addressed in the case of white supremacy). The most widespread issue is implicit bias. That, and the typical lack of consequences when implicit bias results in tragedy. Trying to ignore race altogether can lead to implicit bias going unchecked, under the belief that the playing field is level when it's not.
  18. Hmm. I don't know about that. But to each their own
  19. Agreed if you add 18 to that and actually mean F22

I might try and record some short videos trying…

I doubt it, but it may be possible. If you use I2C for the LCD, you only need 2 spare data pins, so that might work if you have 2 extra. Idk how you'd get the code to work, probably have to integrate both the keyboard and temperture code into one thing to upload to the microcontroller.

The LCD is easy. This article shows you everything you need to know for both wiring and coding. https://learn.adafruit.com/character-lcds/arduino-code The temp may be a little harder. It would be easy enough to just stick a separate temp sensor inside the case that connects straight to the arduino, but probably not what you are looking for. You may be able to connect the Pro Micro to USB and have the computer send temps over serial. Haven't tried something like that myself, but pretty sure it's possible and there should be an example sketch of the serial portion in Arduino's software. The hardest part would be getting the temps for the serial connection. Maybe there already is a program that gets temps and sends them over serial, or maybe you'd have to write one yourself.
