  1. What do you mean by that, the lowest G-sync has gone on a 120+hz so far is 38hz AFAIK, and that was on a monitor listed to go 40 so YMMV.

G-Sync approaches low refresh rates in a very different way which allows it to have an effective range of 0 Hz - X Hz, X being the monitor's max refresh rate.

Below that 40 FPS mark though things shift. The red line shows how AMD's FreeSync and Adaptive Sync work: the refresh rate stays static at 40 Hz even as the frame rate dips below 40 FPS, to 35 FPS, 30 FPS, etc. G-Sync works differently, doubling the refresh rate and inserting duplicate frames starting at around the 37 FPS mark. This continues until the game frame rate hits 19/20 FPS where a third frame is inserted and the refresh rate is increased again. The result is the dashed line representing the effective experience of G-Sync.

  2. Sidenote: The ASUS MeMO Pad 7-inch tablet also comes with: McAfee 2016 Multiuser Access 1 User 5: 2016

It doesn't "come with McAfee," McAfee  is the the requirement for it being this cheap.

Other examples of the same deal.

The reason people don't like it is because the submission of the rebate entails that you accept the ToS and are legally obligated to install mcafee, sign up for auto renewal with a credit card, and stay opted in to it for at least 10 months, after which you can opt out. The problem is that after 10 months it's not unlikely you'll forget and if you do forget to cancel it within those last 2 months of the year it'll end up charging you for the next year.

  4. When I, for example, visit the Tech Talk stream, the video frame tells me that the video does not support the player (HTML5), and then quickly jumps to using Flash Player.

I have no idea what tech talk is, and the channel that came up when I googled it had it's most recent video 3 years ago.....so I'd assume it's not that.

I do know however that I've watched at least 4-5 different channels stream on youtube multiple times and it was always in HTML5

  5. Hi folks,

I have been experiencing random crashes while playing D3. To answer the obvious first question yes it only happens while playing D3. It has happened anywhere in the game from the character select screen to greater rifts.

I have tried both reinstalling the game and multiple versions of the Nvidia drivers for the GTX 970 with no improvement. Is there something that I have to change in Windows 7? I'm running Windows 7 pro 64 bit.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks.

I had the same issue with Diablo 3, I've played 50 or so different games since then and haven't had any issues in them, tried diablo 3 again few weeks back and same thing happens.

Sometimes it'd crash leaving sound working, other times it'd crash graphics driver, other times yet it would BSOD the computer, and occasionally it would just freeze the game entirely forcing me to alt-tab out and close it in task manager.

After a couple weeks and reading through hundreds of pages of diablo 3 issues on forums I just gave up on playing it on PC.

  6. Well this is stupid. Out-of-case tests are slightly harder now, and if you can't quite afford a cooler you don't have a stock one to work with. :/

    That's exactly what I thought.

I just imagined the person who bought the 6700K for their first water cooled system, and they have to put the loop together outside of the case to test it somehow.....either that or buy a heatsink that they'll never actually use.

This'll have very little if any impact on the price in all likelihood, I mean you can buy the tray/oem 4790K (no heatsink and only a 30 day warranty directly from superbiiz) for $10 less than the boxed one (heatsink and 3YR intel warranty).

Even with the warranty taken out of the equation along with the heatsink it still only costs $10 less; Intel might surprise us, and I hope they do, but I doubt we'll see a decrease in the cost for the end user.

  7. I doubt the cards will perform any better at 1080p and 1440p but with the 8GB VRAM it will make GTX 980 a lot less attractive at 4k since the R9 290x is already almost the same performance at 4k as the GTX 980.

    Ummmmm,no?

The R9 290X is some 10% slower than the GTX 980 on average and more memory won't do anything about that.

  8. It sounds like a really good idea initially, but really what's wrong with a normal oven that requires it to become smart and have a camera in it? Who really wants to watch their food being cooked? If it's not done, you'll know when you go to take it out.

The idea is similar to a baby monitor, you're not supposed to spend your whole day staring at it, it's intended to let you glance at your baby to make sure nothing is wrong without having to run around your house or stay in one room all day.

Why do we need to watch our food being microwaved?

I think it's closer to an oven than a microwave.
  9. Also saving money on the CPU to put more into the GPU only makes sense if the CPU will support it without any issues. Further, it's a lot easier to upgrade a GPU than a CPU, and GPUs get outdated much quicker. A lot of people are still happily using >4 year old Intel CPus without any issues. Sandy Bridge is still very competitive and offers great performance, at least when overclocked... but you don't really hear about anyone using GTX 470s these days. For instance the difference between a 2010-2011 CPU and a current CPU is <30%, while the difference in GPUs in that time has more than doubled. So it's a lot less hassle and you'll get more longevity out of your system if you get a stronger CPU up front that will handle a strong GPU and future GPUs, and get a mid-ranged card that won't break the bank... then you can upgrade GPU a couple years later without any issues and get really good performance. If you go for a weak CPU and strong GPU now, the strong GPU will perform like a mediocre GPU (unless playing very GPU-bound settings like 4K <60FPS) and you'll end up having to upgrade the CPU AND GPU, and likely motherboard (prob RAM with DDR4 rolling out) too.

GPU performance has just about quadrupled.

That said people, including me, still use GTX 480s because not everybody needs to play at max settings @ 1440p and/or drive a 120-144hz panel

And you're entirely correct in saying that  DX12 won't just suddenly appear in all games, but I think the adoption will be much faster than DX11 and for good reason; DX11 launched in October 2009 and was supported (for the base specification) by only the HD 5000 series which had launched barely more than a month prior to DX11's launch and Nvidia took about half a year to release the GTX 400 series in order to have GPUs that supported DX11.

This time around support goes all the way back to the GTX 400 series and the HD 7000 series meaning that developing your gaming only for DX12 won't mean abandoning a large majority of your customers.

I think we can expect to see a fair amount of big games (available to consumers) developed primarily for the DX12 API by Q4 2017.
