No worries, glad you got it figured out.  Sometimes when you're frustrated its easy to overlook things.

I guess I was getting frustrated troubleshooting it and couldn't recall if I cleared CMOS with the GPU removed.

I did now and it posted. I can't thank you enough!

Have you tried clearing cmos with gpu removed? Also doesn't that board have Q-led indicators?
 

Reminds me of my dad when he bought a Ford Escort in the 1980's, brand new off the lot. Engine lived for about 30 minutes to never start again. Moral of the story is, anything can break even if it's new or high quality. Bad luck and all.

re-seated cooler with new thermal compound, while doing that, all 4 thumbscrews were not tight fit, basically they were so loose which it doesn't take any effort to unscrew them, pretty sure the loose block was what causing all these for me, will run some games/benchmarks and see if i still get the reboot

Nothing really to worry about looks like standard copper oxidization, if you want to clean it off some metal polish or as said very fine sandpaper. 

Try sanding the copper plate to get it cleaner contact.

Logitech's G502 mouse is on sale for $38USD from its usual 49.99. I know it isn't the biggest "deal", but for I know there are others out there like me that just love to save a buck. It's arguably one of the best mice out there. Definitely a fan favorite. The mouse is normally 49.99 from retailers like Wal-Mart and Amazon, but normally around 59.99-79.99 from retailers like Best Buy.

It's actually the Cooler Master one.  I did a little trimming off the slats and it fits right in.  Offset pretty far back so heats not an issue and the connectors are cleanly exposed so no angle dongles.

fresh installed everything, it at least doesn't stays 60c idle, much close to my idle temps before, i'll just have to monitor and see if it acts up again, thanks mate!

I own a 1070 and it performs really close to a 980ti. Also running your same resolution and I can play Wildlands at High present at 50 fps and Wolfenstein II at ultra at 60+ fps stable. I think you will be fine.

Just afterburner, I know @Lethal Seraph has a 980ti hof
