D13H4RD got a reaction from Fnige in Welcome to the club - Fujifilm welcomes (and subtly trolls) Xiaomi's Mi Note 10 for its 108MP sensor
This might be one of the more cleverly done troll posts I've seen.

No doubt you've heard of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 by this point and its headline feature; its pixel-binned quad Bayer 108MP 3/4" sensor on its main camera.

That absurd resolution (especially for a relatively small CMOS sensor) pits it against the Fujifilm GFX100 as its closest equivalent in terms of resolution. While the resolution of both is roughly identical (with the Mi having a 6MP bump), the sensor on the GFX is muuuuuuch larger, even against the 35mm full-frame formats that have become a mainstay in high end digital cameras.

Naturally, Fujifilm decided to have some fun, with a little post that welcomes Xiaomi to the 100MP club, but not without adding a subtle little gag.

Obviously, the sensor on the Xiaomi is a totally different beast from the GFX as the ISOCELL sensor on the Mi is designed with a quad Bayer CFA for pixel binning purposes, as it is meant to be used in conjunction with computational algorithms to act as a 27MP sensor with larger photons, whilst the GFX is designed to leverage its full resolution due to its much larger sensor and array of better quality glass.

    Still, clever.

I think this post is more of a subtle jab to the former crowd, especially reviewers who were quick to compare it to the GFX.

The truth is that they're only roughly similar in resolution. Outside of that, they're totally different, and not just in terms of size.

If anything, that ISOCELL sensor's size is interesting, especially when the quad Bayer thing works out. It's the 3/4" size that gets me, and not the resolution.

I applaud the innovation put into this and I hope it continues. But personally, I'm happy with my X-T3 ?

That's kind of where my entire beef lies with this metric.

It needs a baseline figure to understand what it really covers. Otherwise, it's arbitrary.

    3x of what? 24mm or 100mm?

Pretty much hit the nail on the head there. It's been done for such a long time to the point where changing how to fundamentally describe the focal length in terms of equivalent FoV is gonna be really difficult to get used to.

Nah, that's the actual term for DSLRs and mirrorless ILCs together as they're cameras with an interchangeable lens design, hence interchangeable lens camera.

It just so happens that people call them DSLRs because that just happens to be the most common form of ILC in use.

Actually, if you're after a ton of zoom, you're better off getting a 70-200/150-600/100-400/200-500/200-600/400/600 dedicated telephoto as they'll come with less compromises versus something like a 24-200 or something similar.

The higher your zoom range, the more your IQ will generally suffer in some way. Superzooms have their place but if you're after outright quality, you're probably better off with a dedicated telephoto if you can stomach the weight and the cost.

(Side note: Not a fan of the term "Pro camera". Prefer just calling them high-end cameras oriented for professional workflow)
