damn Powershell scrips ... been trying to figur…

Best feedback I've seen is from Golang, nearly every single time it tells you exactly the mistake you made without ambiguity. Almost scary how good the feedback is.

I hate PS error verboseness so much, even worse than Java in that regard.
  3. What's the ambient temperature of your room? That has an impact.
  4. Use fio. https://thesanguy.com/2018/01/24/storage-performance-benchmarking-with-fio/ fio --name=seqread --rw=read --direct=1 --ioengine=libaio --bs=8k --numjobs=8 --size=1G --runtime=600 --group_reporting It will work on the directory you're currently in, or you can specify the disk with a flag I don't quite remember off the top of my head.
  5. Curious, why Windows?
  6. Oh, well that isn't spelled out nicely anywhere obvious other than probably 50 pages into some piece of documentation.

So something interesting I discovered, I have 10G NICs on my Proxmox host and have FreeNAS virtualized. The NICs are connected to my 1G network but because of the open vswitch bridge, I get 10G between FreeNAS and the Proxmox host.

Depends which mention of Windows you're referring to.

      1. As VM Guests: Because I'm still a DD novice and don't know of any other GNU/Linux file transfer benchmark utility.
      2. As a hypervisor. I'll just point you to this Status Update. Basically it wasn't by choice but I do hope/plan to change that very soon.

  8. Here is the list of all of them https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-US/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2020-1350
  9. It requires specially crafted packets which I believe browser sandboxing/security would stop so that a site's javascript couldn't directly interact with your network. I'm not too familiar with websockets and whether you'd be able to do this using them.
  10. Market cap is a terrible statistic because Tesla is more valuable than all other car makers if solely using that metric.
  11. Proxmox Backup Server beta was just announced. https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/proxmox-backup-server-beta.72676/

Thought it might pique your interest.

Not going to lie I don't have proper backups for most/all of my VM's (most of them are replaceable in event of catastrophic failure it'd be a ripe PITA though to manually rebuild them all).

What backups of VM/CT I do right now are though manual exports to a CIFS share on a different server where I can re-import them if/as necessary but if PROXMOX has developed a way to automate that I wouldn't mind getting onboard.

  12. All consumer routers suck but I would consider maybe Netgear the least sucky.

Well, 10Gb NICs and switch are here. Cable run…

Pretty much anything other than a SAS backplane or actually modern spec PSU will have 3.3v issue. I just used scotch tape ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  14. EDIT: sorry that didn't work either EDIT2: try this https://eshoo.house.gov/media/press-releases/eshoo-wyden-and-colleagues-introduce-legislation-fight-online-child
  15. I did but here it is bare anyways https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/paloma/the-cybersecurity-202/2020/05/07/the-cybersecurity-202-democrats-push-a-bill-to-combat-child-pornography-without-undermining-encryption/5eb31bd688e0fa42c41b3dda/
  16. Ignoring the partisan support, there is a opposing bill that also aims to fight child pornography and exploitation without breaking encryption. It's not very publicized, unfortunately.
  17. Vkd3d is the software you're looking for, it's part of WINE. The original project owner passed away last year but development has been taken over by Hans-Kristian (forked the original, does a lot of open source graphics programming), Josh (owner of d9vk which got upstreamed into dxvk), and Doitsujin (owner of dxvk). Those are primary devs but there are plenty of others as well that are part of WINE and even Valve.
  18. It's faster than most HDDs but slower than a SATA SSD.
  19. I'm going to take a guess and say there aren't any actual Windows 10 drivers for this laptop due to its age, I mean the latest versions on Asus' site are from like 2011 and only available under Windows 7.

I need some compressed air. I'm fresh out.

I have this one https://www.amazon.com/XPOWER-Airrow-Multi-Use-Electric-Computer/dp/B01BI4UQK0/ It's corded but pretty powerful, can feel the whole thing turn if your hand when you turn it on because of the torque. Kind of expensive vs just a can of air but is more an investment I guess.

I got an electric air blower, much better than compressed air.
  22. Yeah, anyone that has even taken a cursory glance at his Twitter will realize he is the last person you want as an objective source.
