So something interesting I discovered, I have 10G NICs on my Proxmox host and have FreeNAS virtualized. The NICs are connected to my 1G network but because of the open vswitch bridge, I get 10G between FreeNAS and the Proxmox host.

Depends which mention of Windows you're referring to.
- As VM Guests: Because I'm still a DD novice and don't know of any other GNU/Linux file transfer benchmark utility.
- As a hypervisor. I'll just point you to this Status Update. Basically it wasn't by choice but I do hope/plan to change that very soon.

Use fio. https://thesanguy.com/2018/01/24/storage-performance-benchmarking-with-fio/
fio --name=seqread --rw=read --direct=1 --ioengine=libaio --bs=8k --numjobs=8 --size=1G --runtime=600 --group_reporting
It will work on the directory you're currently in, or you can specify the disk with a flag I don't quite remember off the top of my head.

Not going to lie I don't have proper backups for most/all of my VM's (most of them are replaceable in event of catastrophic failure it'd be a ripe PITA though to manually rebuild them all).
What backups of VM/CT I do right now are though manual exports to a CIFS share on a different server where I can re-import them if/as necessary but if PROXMOX has developed a way to automate that I wouldn't mind getting onboard.
