Sounds like the magic smoke got out, lol. Sorry for your loss!

EVGA is generally pretty good with RMAs, so I'd definitely reach out to them and see what you can get as far as swapping it out. Their "standard warranty" if you didn't buy from an "authorized retailer" or don't have a receipt is 3 years. http://eu.evga.com/support/warranty/

Firix reacted to FinnR730 in PCIe Lanes Confusion
Linus' recent video linked below has left me a little confused so I hope someone can help me out

    http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/228327-pcie-lanes-pcie-8x-vs-16x-in-sli/

I got an Intel i7 3770k running on an ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 board and currently I have a graphics card (Asus GTX 760) and a Wi-Fi card on my board. My CPU has 16 PCIe lanes so I'm assuming that my GPU is running 8x and the Wi-Fi card 1x (please correct me if I'm wrong) I want to run two graphics cards in the future and though it will not initially be an SLI setup I do want to be running both cards in 8x

To do this will I have to remove the Wi-Fi card? (use a USB Wi-Fi thing instead perhaps)
Will the two graphics cards automatically be running 8x 8x?
Also if I remove the Wi-Fi card before adding a second graphics card will the single card automatically run at 16x?

I have tried reasearching this myself but the information is rather unclear so if anyone can inform me it would be much appreciated and thanks in advance to anyone who replies

Here's an alternative if you don't care much for overclocking/sli. The i5-4460 has been known for excellent gaming value/performance.

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($178.89 @ SuperBiiz)  Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($71.99 @ SuperBiiz)  Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($49.99 @ Newegg)  Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($65.00 @ Amazon)  Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($44.99 @ Amazon)  Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II Video Card  ($269.69 @ Amazon)  Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case  ($57.99 @ Micro Center)  Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($69.99 @ SuperBiiz)  Total: $808.53

Right, I'm no expert, but I can find cheaper parts. You didn't say what you wanted to do with it, like OC or what.
This here: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/YYRjCJis good for overclocking, and I swapped out the 770 for a more efficient 970 along side some other changes like the ssd to a cheaper sandisk and the HDD to a cheaper Seagate, all reputable brands. Because the estimated wattage was less than 400 I went for the corsair CX500M, the little brother of the one you chose. Because your motherboard didn't support SLI I assumed you wouldn't want one that could, and you would be paying a premium for one if so.
If you don't want to overclock then you could get a i5 4460 or 4690 which are cheaper but not overclockable as well as a motherboard with a H87/H97 chip on it, which again, don't support over clocking, as well as completely removing the CPU cooler because if you aren't overclocking then you won't need it.
Note: if someone contradicts me, they are probably right, I haven't been here that long.
Another note: This works out around £740, just remove the "UK." From the URL to get it in dollars.

Sorry I named your currency incorrectly, I'm an American fail hard noob.

Are you interested in AMD Graphics cards? You might be able to get something better than a 960 that is also cheaper than the 960.

    http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/mjnc7P

The money saved here was from the motherboard. The mohterboard is still z97, and IS crossfire compatible. just under 700 pounds.

and if that is too much, just downgrade the graphics card by 1... and get this...

    http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Ww36dC

You could always buy a second graphics card later to increase game performance, and your motherboard is SLI ready. (might have to upgrade your PSU though when you go crossfire.)

    Edit:

All of the above is irreverent now that I see you have a shield and will not be using AMD.

Pretty sure something like this would make you happy

EDIT: the reason for Xeon is you want to edit and it has 8 threads. It games well and if you are gaming at 1080p all you need is this 280x. Rest is pretty standard. Mobo was picked only because it's reliable and has 4 ram slots for ram upgrade if you need it. By the time this thing is obsolete we'll be on a new socket anyway too so a z97 isn't a great idea if you don't need to overclock (which you don't on this Xeon).

Don't buy a 4690. A 4690k is only a tiny bit more expensive (it has more value and will have a much higher value over time as it is a beast overclocker even if you don't OC atm)

In your situation I would buy the 4460. It's cheaper and that money can go into a GPU that will have a more drastic impact on gaming.
