Skyway got a reaction from baloonis in Choosing New G-sync 1440p Gaming Monitor
While I have never owned a g sync 144hz monitor, I can comment on gaming at 1440 with a 970.

I have the Asus turbo 970 (which is a mini itx 970 that doesn't overclock well and has lower clock speeds out of the box) and have been gaming on an HP Envy 32" 1440p monitor.  While I can't max most of the games I play, I can still get 60fps on medium-high settings.  Most are on the upper range of high while a few I have to turn down to medium for some settings.  Now don't get me wrong, I'm not playing on medium settings for everything, I just have to turn down some key stuff to get good fps.  I came from a 1080p monitor where I could max all my games, but the bump in resolution is worth the upgrade imo.  Some of the games I play are Diablo 3, GTA V, Bioshock Infinite, Shadow of Mordor, Fallout 4, Assetto Corsa, Need For Speed, Elder Scrolls Online, Grim Dawn, Dragon Age Inquisition, Metro Last Light, BF4, and BF Hardline.  So a pretty good mix of fps, rpg, action and racing.  My 970 has handled all of them very well, considering the 970 was aimed at 1080p/60fps.

All my games look gorgeous and very immersive at this size and resolution.  A 970 is an easily capable card for 2560x1440, but for how long I cannot say.  It probably won't be holding up so well a couple years later, but DX 12 might help it last longer.

    Hope this helps a little!

Skyway got a reaction from ElvanOng in Should i buy Palit GTX 970 jetstream?
Gigabyete, msi , or asus.  Those are the top three 970's.  It doesn't mean other brands aren't going to be good, it just means those are the cream of the crop (cooler temps, better overclocking, etc.).  If you like the looks of it and you can afford it, go for it.

The potential problems with a lesser brand might be customer service, components used on board may not be as high quality, longevity of the card, etc.  I have never owned a Palit brand card and I can't comment on their products, this is more of a generalized statement.

Just my two cents, hope it helps.

My vote goes for team green, Nvidia.  I like that they use a lot less power and a lot more games seem to be optimized for them.  I don't mind AMD, but when Nvidia cards can have the same, or sometimes more, performance for half the wattage, it really impresses me.  Just my two cents

Skyway got a reaction from Catman007 in Asus Turbo GTX 970
I recently purchased the Asus Turbo 970 and I'm very impressed with it so far, build quality is top notch.  I upgraded from a 270x and am loving the performance increase, plus the tdp is only 145w compared to the 270x's 180w.  It actually runs cooler than my 270x (idle and load) and just crushes everything I've thrown at it.  Now with that said, I've only owned it for a day, so I cannot comment on durability or long term stability.  I will continue to update this thread if anyone is interested, if not I just wanted to create a thread about it in case someone out there is looking for information on this card (as I could find none).  I will probably be making a youtube video as well because I couldn't find a decent one that was in english.

It idles at 35 and sits right at 70 under full load and gaming.  At full rpm, the fan is loud, not gonna lie about that, but if you lower the fan speed down to around 75-80, it is tolerable imo.  It's more of an air movement, wooshing sound and it's not nearly as harsh a sound as my msi 270x's dual fans at full load.

I overclocked the core to 1505mhz and the memory to 7400mhz (still in the process of dialing this in, I think I can squeeze a little more out of it) and it's been stable so far.  I've run Valley and kombuster and played all my demanding games (BF4, Bioshock Infinite, Asseto Corsa, Metro Last Light, Shadow of Mordor, and Tomb Raider).  The ASIC quality is 72.8% on this particular card and it has Elpida vram.

My curious side got the best of me and I popped off the fan and shroud.  I snapped a few pics and back it went in my rig.

Skyway got a reaction from iamdarkyoshi in $400- Which graphics card?
I vote 970.  With a budget of $400, you would have some money left over to buy something else.  Also the 970 uses WAAAAY less power than the 290's and 390's.  Just my two cents though

Skyway got a reaction from Harry Lahiri in nvidia GTX 970 ASUS or Gigabyte? Can't decide
Gigabyte for sure, runs the coolest and overclocks the best.  I also think you need more power than 450w.  Currently I have a 450w bronze psu and I'm running an overclocked 4690k and a stock 970 (for now) and I'm really debating on picking up the silverstone sx600 just to have a little more headroom.

Your psu is going to be powering all of you expensive components, cpu, gpu, ssd's, hdd's, ram, everything.  So if something happens, you could potentially fry your whole rig.  That's why pretty much everyone who knows what they're talking about is going to recommend a higher quality and wattage psu.  Quality is the main thing you want when dealing with power delivery
