Okay so shed some light here for me:
I bought a DT 990 gray pro maybe 6 years ago and used it for mixing/mastering since i cant afford a studio (LOL). Was happy with it.

Fast forward just now I have received the DT 990 Limited edition BLACK for a spare set, yeah, staight cable..

I was expecting it to sound the same, but for some reason the Old gray one was noticeably louder, and also had more mid range than the Black Limited edition that I am thinking to return and order the gray one instead. (Boxes also are different now, form a white clear box to a black box)

Is it just because the other one is old? Or materials have changed? idk, I get it if over time the quality may have changed but....

No, the earpads are different, not just in colors. I had the DT880 Black Edition and the earpads felt stiff and uncomfortable. Fast forward to last year, I rebought the DT880 but this time in Manufaktur edition and the earpads comes very comfy. Probably Tygr 300R earpads.

  2. Better buy them legit from legit stores. The chances of getting counterfeits are very high, like really very high. And stories like "I got them as a gift" is used for billions of times. Just the same old cringe excuse. Apple, Marshall and Jabra are so far the most that can be made fake and I've experienced that.

And oh, serial numbere means shit. They can just use any serial numbers from authentic ones.

  3. I had the Airpods 3 and it's trash. The fit is indeed a problem. The sound is also not that good too so I returned it. I had the Airpods 2 and it's one of the most comfortable earbuds I had. I gave them to my sister as I got the Sony WF-XM4. She loves the comfort of the Airpods 2 too.

would the apple dongle be enough to power beyerdynamic tygr? it appears to be cheaper than k702

    Gaming headsets are trash.

You don't need apple dongle to power the Tygr.

  5. Beyerdynamic may be famous for their bright highs but not all of them have that issue. The affordable DT880 and Tygr have smooth highs. The not so affordable Beyerdynamics with smooth highs are Amiron Wireless (Copper), Amiron Home and the T5/T1 3rd gen.

that's not a low budget lol

The airpods are good but expensive as HELL

I would get these Amazon.com: JBL Live Pro TWS 2: 40 Hours of Playtime, True Adaptive Noise Cancelling, Smart Ambient, and Beamforming mics (Black) : Electronics

these are pretty expensive (170) but have anc and sound quality like the airpods Beats Studio Buds + True Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds — Transparent - Apple

I recently got the JBL Live Pro 2 and they are the best in-ears I ever have! Warm, non-fatiguing sound, amazing and powerfull bass which is great for movies and series. Comfort is excellent and it got EQ app.

On Amazon they $99? I got them for €110. They beat the shit out of Airpods gen 3. I had the latter and didn't like. Comfort is bad too.

The soundstage is kind of relative. Yes, open-backed gives you a 'broader' or 'airy-er' soundstage; but closed-back, it can almost seem like the audio is coming from inside your head..or that you're 'inside' of the music itself. Which is its own kind of 'wide soundstage' in a sense. It's kind of hard to explain, but it pretty much comes down to personal preference. For me, it breaks down as simple as if I'm home, open-backed; in public, closed-back.

Yes, that's what I mean, broader or airy-er soundstage. Closedbacks can do that too. I had the Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd and its soundstage is really impressive. But yeah, like I said, they are not really cheap. Personally I don't have preferences, be it openback or closed, I love all the headphones in my sig. So far the only closedback I have is the Amiron Wireless Copper. Excellent headphones, smooth sound and great soundstage too.

USB increases latency of sound + I can't put it into my fulltower case.

Who told you that? Only wireless increases latency.

You're limiting yourself big time and HD800S is not a headphone you want to use with abomination onboard audio. No one in their right mind would do that, ever. I don't know the exact reason to have all your hardware inside a fulltower pc but that goes for keyboard, mouse and monitor to be there too.

  9. External audio solutions will always stay superior. Internal sound cards are not really good because of inconvience and they increase chances for buzzing sounds from the Internal eletric components. Onboard audio are usually very weak. External audio can be placed anywhere like directly next to your monitor so it's much more convenience.

Yeah, was my feeling as well. Just thought to see it as a chance to try something new.

Might I ask, what DAC/AMP or setup are you using with yours, or just the motherboard audio?

Well, another good headphone is the Beyerdynamic Tygr. It's a bassier headphone so I don't know if you like that.

My dac/amp is the Klipsch Heritage amplifier. It has been discontinued unfortunately. My PC is placed too far away to use any other headphone so I prefer dac/amp right next to my monitor for convenience.

Thank you, from what I've seen, similar price, identical sound, but I'm more inclined towards the HD 560S because I want to try open headsets.

    Do you have another recommendation?

    Fidelio X2HR or Beyerdynamic Tygr.
