VenkiPhy6 got a reaction from dragoon20005 in The Bang - An APU based Value PC - Build log [BENCHMARKS ARE HERE! Overclocking advice would be appreciated]
I know this is an old thread. Sorry for digging this up from the grave.
But man this PC has such precious memories now! Since this build, I finished my Bachelor's, moved out of the city (in which I lived for nearly 20 years), finished my Master's during which my parents moved out of my childhood home(which is where I built this PC) and I ended up getting a Data Analyst job! My life is totally different from when I built this PC.... but the PC still works! It is obviously not my primary machine (been the case for nearly the last 2 years. I currently have a Acer VX-15 laptop.) but every time I go back to my parent's place and look at it, it is so nostalgic. Also in the middle of all this, my brother got married and this PC will be going to my nephew in a few months time (obviously with a few upgrades)!
In the middle of all the benchmarking and other techy stuff, we really don't talk enough about the emotional aspects of owning a PC. LIke, I bet I won't have this sorta attachment if it was a console. Worth every penny - I had friends over for gaming night, I applied for my Master's degree with this, I took several MOOCs on it (which inspired me to go for the Master's in the first place!), I learnt to code in Python .... so MANY MEMORIES!
Sorry, for all the cheesiness but I don't think this log would be complete without it...

VenkiPhy6 reacted to BumbleBort in SpokeDesk V1
Hi chaps!
Being a long time watcher of LMG content I finally decided it was time to sign up to the forums to see what it's all about. I've just completed my first watercooling build, incorporated into a desk case I designed myself. I've finally given it a name I'm not too happy with but here it is all the same, SpokeDesk V1.
The desk is purely made from 1.6mm mild steel. I work for a sheetmetal engineering company and so I did most of the manufacture and fabrication myself on CNC machines.
Initial design render.
The desktop and a few other parts freshly punched on a CNC punch press.
Test fitting before welding and paint
Parts hanging on the powder coat line.
First components going in. Used 780ti with waterblock from eBay and my trusty MSI GD53 with a 2500k from my first PC build.
A view of the back panel and custom power switch
Loop complete, mayhems laser green UV dye.
Trying to bleed air from the system.
Testing the UV.
Complete!

VenkiPhy6 reacted to Misanthrope in Pirates, why do you do it?
I like Law & Order. A lot. The original series is not broadcasted anymore where I live. This is how much I'd have to pay to get all of it and many of those DVD transfers are actually rather low quality. Not only that but you'd notice from the link that nobody sells it directly I have to deal with ebay sellers and import it and have it sit on customs for weeks.
I have looked for the series on several services and it had some seasons available in Netflix (Only the really old ones, 1 through 9) but they're all gone and Amazon also has only 7 out of the 20 seasons available.
Now I'd gladly pay a reasonable amount (150 to 200 bucks) for the entire series or a fee to stream them, I am just unable to for the most part. If the shit I want to see is not available under reasonable circumstances, that's not much of a choice at all.

Seems expensive right? Well, once I got home, my parents told me that they prefer laptops/tablets nowadays, so I was free to sell/salvage my current computer. So both the RAM and HD from my old computer are now being put into my new computer. The power supply was actually gifted to me by a different family member, so I can't quite complain there, nor is extra wattage that big of a deal (right?). So basically, what I'd ordered was the CPU, Motherboard, GPU, and the Case. All but the GPU is supposed to arrive by tomorrow, and the GPU is coming in next Tuesday. I'm probably going to put it all together before I even get the GPU, just to test if there are any parts that are DOA.
Overall, with the savings that I've gained from re-using parts and possibly will gain from selling my used parts, I'm just going to hold onto them. There's no telling where and when I might need money, and I think it'd be wise to just hold onto it for a bit until I really want/feel the need to upgrade a part.
The rationale behind getting an i5 over a better GPU is that I'm pretty happy with the graphical performance that I normally get, and I would rather get a solid CPU of this generation while supplies last, rather than having to upgrade both CPU/motherboard or buy a more expensive secondhand CPU in the future.
I got the 750Ti over the 260X because I wanted to try Team Green, just to see how things were, and it wasn't THAT much more expensive.
Overall, my build may look balanced, it may look strange, but I don't personally see anything that I would balk at. The most pertinent upgrade down the line that I could see would be to probably pop in an SSD in there for games/etc.
Just one quick question as I'm gearing up to build this new computer: Is it recommended that I do a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on my hard drive for this new computer? I don't really care too much about personal files as I have that all backed up, and applications/games can always be downloaded again.

VenkiPhy6 reacted to brob in microATX Gaming Build
In gaming dual channel might lead to 1 - 2 fps improvement. Not much, but when there is essentially not cost differential why choose worse performance. In non-gaming tasks the improvement is generally somewhere between 5% and 15%.

After a lot of deliberation and discussion with other people, I've come to the conclusion to try to stretch a bit further to get an i5, while keeping the graphics card relatively budget:

Why? Because while gaming is cool and all; work will probably be more important. So i5 would make sense in being able to handle more of a workload and probably being able to handle most if not all things in the future. Not to mention, the majority of the games that I play aren't heavily demanding nor do I ever use anti-aliasing. So for gaming purposes, I will be perfectly happy, and if I were to see fit, I could easily upgrade just the GPU in my build and perhaps a new PSU if the GPU does take up a lot of power. So yeah, trying to take more realistic priorities with my computer

good, nice, but if I was you, I wouldn't buy aftermarket CPU cooler, and put those 55€ into CPU and get Intel i3 4xxx
It will do better for gaming
it won't be evn close to overheating or something like that
trust me, i have i3 4160, I'm playing GTA 5, Far Cry4, Unity.. all day long on ultra and it's nice and quiet and the temps are also good.
get the cooler some time later when you get money
hope i helped

That will definitely give you a lot of extra overhead if you plan to plug in a bunch of other stuff like routers and modems during a power outage atleast you'll still have access to the Internet.
