Certainly not silly at all to watercool a GTX 970. Just not an ASUS card. As they have poor power delivery.
You can easily get GTX 980 performance out of a watercooled 970.
And when a GTX 1070 costs $620 au or $455 us. Its quite a jump in price. And if your only playing at 1080p.
Then really not a great room of improvement. Unless you have a 144hz panel. But at 1080p @ 60hz. No

That $330 card was the new price. & with $100 worth of cooler was still cheaper than a 980 at the time For same performance

Here's how you chose pascal cards. Out of all your options:
Throw away any blower style and single fan cards. Keep only dual / triple fans and hybrids. Throw away the ones you don't like the color scheme. For example, I don't like black and red, so the MSI Gaming ones would be immediately out for me. Keep only the ones you find aesthetically pleasing. Sort them by price. Pick the first one that shows up. Or pay a bit more if you REALLY like the looks of a more expensive card. Outside of that, not really much of a difference between them.

A lot of the youtubers had said that the extra power delivery will NOT help you to get a higher clock speed.
I have only seen 1 youtuber said it , which is jaz2cents. I watched one of his youtube video (I think it was the MSI 1080 gaming X  one).
He compared his FE card to the after market MSI card. Which showed that those 2 cards basically have the same overclock potential.

I have no idea whether what he is saying is truth though.
The previous gen card (Maxwell and such) it was true that more power delivery will guarantee you more OC headroom.
However in Pascal it seems not to be that way, probably because Pascal cards are shitty when it comes to OC.
You just cannot squeeze more juice out of it.

Am I correct when it comes to all these?
Correct me if I am wrong. Not quite into this "OC game" though.

Purplehazeffc reacted to Lays in GTX 1080 - 1070. Worth custom card to Watercool? VS F/E Card
The problem is the architecture itself, not the number of connectors or number of phases.  ALL of the 1080 and 1070 are going to do ~2100 give or take some mhz, because of the way the architecture is. Power really isn't a limitation, it's temperature.  Giving them shit tons of power availability and voltage isn't going to help, because of how hot the internals of the GPU get, and how extremely sensitive to voltage the chip is.   Without subzero cooling or other methods of cooling that can get the GPU extremely cold, we just aren't going to see some random 3x 8 pin 22 phase card magically do 2400 mhz on water.

You have to remember that this chip has ~21% less surface area than the previous 980 ti / Titan X with roughly the same amount of transistors in it, it's extremely hard to dissipate all that heat effectively from inside the internals of the GPU.

The so called "Crappy Coolermaster Stuff" as you put it is the reason.
It is more than likely no better than what Intel had under there in the 1st place.
You need to put Cool Laboratory's Liquid Ultra under there to see any difference.
Do a You Tube search & it will show you How! What! & Where!

That works out to to $1103 Canadian for the EVGA & MSI Cards. While the ASUS & Gigabyte are $1122 Canadian

So I wouldn't complain that much if I was Canadian. Plus you could prob buy it from an US shop & get it delivered cheaper.
Aussies will be looking at $100 US Minimum to get it delivered........

The GTX 1080 is listed by nVidia at $699 US Dollars. Founders Edition
Going by the current exchange rate it should be around $970 Aust Dollars. And $830 Aust Dollars for board partners.
Anymore than $1000 Australian is not really a fair price. But it's always the same over here.
    The GTX 970 listed at $449 Founders ( $622 Aust) or $379 board partners ( $525 Aust)

I can guarantee that it will be more than that cause of the Australia TAX

Purplehazeffc reacted to GoodBytes in Windows 10 Software Protection Service
The service was introduced back in Windows 7, and you need this service, and should not be disabled.
If you disable it, some software will no longer work. It is used by a software that you are installed or the OS.

I would wait leave the computer idle and let it do its thing. If after several hours of idle, it isn't done, then you probably installed a software that uses the service and stuck in a infinite loop repeating the same action over and over again. At 36% it is probably using an entire core by itself on your system.
So my vote is a software you installed that has a bug under Windows 10, and stuck validating its license over and over and over again in a loop with on pause.

The slow speed is due to congestion!, this is not NBNs fault but the ISPs.

There are simply too many people trying to access the internet and the ISP has not purchased enough bandwidth to sustain everyone.

I'm on the NBN & have been since Nov 2014 with iiNet.
I'm on their 100/40 plan with 250gb for $89.95 per month.
I think the roll out has change since it has first done, with ongoing connections not as good.
But even though Australia is still well behind most of the world in speeds vs cost.
This is my speed just taken at 7.35pm  So with iiNet I am getting what I pay for.
And also FTTH of course. One of the early connections
