This does not apply to windows 10, seriously does no one read the articles anymore?

Here is a list of services those conditions apply to:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/servicesagreement/?s=ecym#serviceslist

IF you look closely you will see it applies to xbox and windows games and xbocx live,  it is basic DRM, nothing new.

I know its a synthetic benchmark, but my iPad Air 2 actually beat my Pc's single core score in geekbench 3

    http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/1174982

iPad Air 2 : 1810 single core, 4552 multi core.
Fx-6300 (my pc) : 1757 single core, 6329 multi core.

I thought my processor was pretty decent, but now... How soon before even apple overtake AMD in terms of processors? Intel as far as I'm concerned beat AMD in every way except price.

Raphhashem reacted to smjpl in Why do we still use CPU's?
Kinda but not really. I think a better analogy would be to compare it to a cpu with integrated graphics (it doesn't need to be integrated but helps as they are both on the same chip).

The igpu would be the part of the brain that controls vision (not the eyes themselves). The part of our brain that controls vision has to do loads of work at one time (image processing is parallel) but it is unconscious to us (we don't have to think in order to see) so it is a different sort of power. What makes it powerful is the fact that it can do loads at one time but again it's a different sort of power as it is just doing the same thing over and over but with loads of data. This is SIMD, single instruction multiple data. The instruction is the image processing calculation and the multiple data is all the information our eyes take in on the cells of our retina.

The cpu would be the part of the brain that allows us to be conscious and thinking, i.e. we can think and we are very good at logic but can only really thing about one thing at a time (serial processing). As we know our conscious thought is extremely powerful and flexible but it still only allows us to think about doing one thing at a time. This kinda corresponds to SISD, single instruction, single data. The instruction might be listening and the data would be a person. As you know if we try to listen to two people at the same time we have to jump back and forth between listening to both people really quickly to try catch all of the info.

Both vision and consciousness each require a lot brain power but they are very very different and no one part of the brain can perform both jobs. This is why a gpu could never replace a cpu. This analogy isn't perfect but it is the best way I can explain it.

Don't you find it curious that those who give ssd a serious try end up becoming committed proponents?

All RAID arrays are not only open to unit failure, they can also be broken because of logical issues. (Things like a BIOS being flashed and the SATA mode not being reset to RAID before the system tries to boot.) The problem with RAID 0 is that unlike other levels is offers no protection from unit failure and suffers complete loss of data should the array break.

Besides, except in situation where large serial writes and reads occur ssd in RAID 0 can perform worse than a single large drive, http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-raid-benchmark,3485-13.html.

The limited writes is only a theoretical problem, it's practically impossible to reach the actual limit.

I use an SSD on SATA I and it is still much snappier than HDDs, in fact it doesn't feel much worse than my other SSD on SATA III.  The sequential throughput, which is what improves with each SATA revision, is only a part of the speed benefit that SSDs give.  The improvements in random reads and writes are what give it the high responsiveness compared to an HDD, since it can access anything electronically and react instantly, instead of having to seek back and forth to physically locate and retrieve the data.  You get this benefit no matter what SATA revision you're on, and it benefits a lot more than just loading times.

Anyone know how to get steamos to run on a raspberry pi? Limelight is working at the moment but the steamos interface is a lil bit glitchy. Otherwise the pi is clearly capable of acting as a terminal for streaming games. I've already started to play through Battlefield 4 on it, it runs at 720p at 60fps, Haven't tried 1080p yet as my main machine only goes up to 1400x900. Otherwise the gaming experience is pretty slick.
