Any Updates?

Saddly the fans are going to be late... I dont know when I will receive them. The new HD7950 is running nice and quiet. I am planning on buying some bitfenix extensions for the gpu 6pins and the 24pin. Going to post some benchmarks and info tommorow.

Also the stock cpu cooler has to go :P too much noise !! Havent decided yet if I will go for an air cooler or invest on an AIO liquid cooler. I am a little afraid of liquids on my new hardware but hell they look so much better than these huge air coolers.

Here is an UPDATE ( Having a real computer after about 4 months and I completely forgot about the buid log :P)

(The forum glitched and had to edit this a couple of times)

So here is the PSU cover intalled with my ssd in place.

post-18625-0-64764400-1382900075_thumb.jpost-18625-0-88982200-1382900116_thumb.jpost-18625-0-32113000-1382900150_thumb.jpost-18625-0-01972400-1382900179_thumb.j

Using the same foam sheet I used on the PSU cover I made myself some cable grommets and it worked great.

Used some velcrow to mount the psu cover to the the case and to mount the ssd

Looks a lot more polished with the cover on it. You should look at getting one of those metal fan guard for that fan hole.

I actualy did buy a fan guard :P ordered it with the fans.

Nice one! fan guards can really add something to a build!

are you going to use the same stuff to carpet the floor of the case?

you mean using foam sheets? I dont know yet.. but I have enough to wrap the whole case if I want to  :P

I know they look grey on the pictures but thats just becouse of the flash on my camera. I will try and take a photo with natural light.

Also the quality of the pictures is set to 70%-60% becouse I couldnt upload the original ones( stupid 2mb limit)

Here is what my system looks like with the gpu installed and all the temporary fans installed

Photo was taken while the system was running

Was thinking you could do it so that it would match up was all. you would also be able to hide the hole in the floor of the case by using foam... Also it might help reducing some sound from the case.

I upload my images to flickr first then copy the link across. It just means you can have very high quality images... The photographer in me coming out :)

I never thought abou using the foam to reduce noise... I will see if it turns out well. I like the idea though :)

Next time I will upload them on my dropbox account. Its just easier to upload them directly on the forum :P

Also I will probably replace my ssd to a 250gb one like the samsung 840 evo.  I will sell the 128gb one I have. Wih just some games installed I have only 25gb of free space left :P

You should get a Hard drive then, it might not look the best but it will prevent upgrade after upgrade after upgrade of SSDs.  And does modding (like what you did) void your warrenty, because I know cutting it and stuff does but does just painting and adding things ect void the warrenty?  And about the Hard drive, you could have it tucked away in the optical drive place :P

But I dont want a hdd  The ssd is just too fast and I cant go back to using a hdd. I think the 250gb one is the sweet spot ^_^ A quiet system on the cheap is in my priorities.

The mods I done void the warantly of my case only becouse I drilled some holes for the psu cover and feet. All the other mods like the cable manangment holes and velcrow mounted ssd dont void it becouse hot glue can be easily removed and there will be no marks left :) I think painting components will void your waranty though..

Also just bought a arduino, some breadboards, temerature sensonrs and voltage regulaors to make my automatic fan controller. all that for ~10€ (my mobo only suppoers PWM fans for controlling)

Nice! and thanks for the info! And sadly theres not much I, as a total noob can do to mod my PC without voiding the warranty.  However I might buy a quite-kit thingy to stop vibration.  I also think I'll remove my hard drive cage.  Pretty boring :'(  Sometimes I feel like just getting a stencil and some spray paint and putting a nice red bear claw on the side pannel, and highlighting all the front lines in red.  While also cutting some foam, and putting it on the side pannel (the inside) to keep noise down. But those will void my warrenty. I also wanted to put my power supply in the optical drive part.

It will actually void the warantly of the case only. I am a noob too when it comes to case mods. Just do what you thing will look good. I also wanted to put the PSU on the optical bay area as well  but it wouldnt fit without moding the case  :( so instead I built a PSU cover  :) I think be quiet sells a kit with all the anti vibration foams and  things you will need to make your case quiter.

Yeah, at first I wanted to get a water cooler for looks, and I was like meh... so I decided to go with an extra 8GB of RAM, a New PSU, a Hyper 212 EVO and an SSD (buying one soon).  Because thats how much certain stuff costs here.  So wish me luck x_x  Most mod things and water coolers etc cost an absolute fortune.  I mean almost $300 for a Corsair H100i. CRAZY!

Wow! Thats expensive! The H100i costs like 100€ here. I would love to build a cutsom water loop but It will also cost me like 200euros for a basic loop and a 240mm rad. This stuf is expensive!

Good luck your your pc upgrades and mods ;) share some photos when you finish!

I know that feeling. When I installed my ssd for the first time my hands where shaking and I was soo nervous becouse the ssd was the most expensive pc harware I had ever bought! I belive it is worth upgrating to an ssd especialy now that the prices are so low! Βought my 128gb for like 150€ 2 years ago. now I can get a 250gb one for that money!

  • 2 weeks later...

SO the fans finally arived! they look sweat! althought they dont match the mobo blue, while spinning they look more like translucent so I am ok with that. Also the side panel fan got removed. What I noticed is that the foam I used to make the PSU cover accomulates a lot of dust and its hard to clean so I am thinking of vinyl wrapping it black or carbon fibre. Still waiting for the arduino to arrive from china. These fans are a little bit loud (not like the corsair ones)running at 12volts. Cable manangment is temporary. Bitfenix Extensions will be ordered soon!
