Will AMD Mantle be supported on AMD 7900 series cards?

I have a 7970, have they stated whether or not mantle will be supported on my card.

Yes. 7000 series are GCN cards.

I wonder what is Nvidia doing currently, they are ramping up with linux driver support, but i dont think they will went the route amd did... will they? They should.

If the R9-280X can support it, the 7970 GE can support it. They are basically the same card.

Its nice to get something extra after you've  bought the product. At the time of buying the 7970 I got tonnes of games, and now mantle.

 

I look forward to some performance increase in BF4.

Yes.
Specifically the following GPUs natively support Mantle.
7970/7970 Ghz edition, 7950, 7870 Tahiti LE
7870/7870 Ghz edition, 7850
7790, 7770, 7750 & 7730.
