Why Filco? Why are they known widely?

iM8Pizza

I mean, they are just standard mechanical keyboard, no Volume key, no Programmable button, etc. it's just a keyboard. and by that said, Why are they known so widely among mechanical keyboard users? Why? I mean, they are just your usual keyboard, you can get a better one at the same price, but Why?

~No, I don't hate Filco, I'm just willing to know :3

on what kind of quality? I mean, you can get a G710+ that have been tested to survived when it got "step" on by a Hetzer and on the same price or lower! or you can get other keyboards like Ducky or leopold or so on, with more feature and perhaps lower price as well.

The G710+ with its breaking keycaps and cheap plastic construction? - I have a g710+ and love it but its not perfect, I would not dare even stand on it, the plastic is pretty flexiable, I have a few key caps with cracks (luckily they still work if a little loose to remove)

Filcos are like tanks, with the best PCBs, the best materials - I think they are imported directly from Japan, not sure

I would put Ducky up there with the best too and equally they are more expensive than Logitech and Corsair etc

Filcos aren't imported directly from Japan, perhaps only if you got the Japanese version then maybe yes(you know, the one with Hiragana, Kana, and stuff...). I got one and it's made in Taiwan . Ducky isn't really that expensive, they got a G2 Pro which is a basicly like any other ducky keyboard but with only it's backlit on WASD(you can mod them and add LEDs to all of the keys though!), and they are cheaper as well(with Shine 4 as exception).

and why not a K70 instead? it uses aluminium as its cover, so why not that instead? (no, not the RGB version).

and back to Filco again, what kind of best materials? the outer part itself are made with plastic and the keycaps aren't even PBTs, but ABS instead. the PCB, well that is a thing about Filco...But I still wonder..."How does it "Best" than others?"

SNIP

Some of the Ducky and Das models are just as expensive as the Filco, its not like its $500 or or anything

I dont know 100% but if you read any reviews and comparisons they always get the same comments "really well made" "like a tank" "super nice quality"

it could just be that their tolerances and quality control are top notch

I can find plenty of reviews online and on amazon of people saying they are nicer to type on than Das and Leopold, maybe they are just very consistent and nice

Filco make some of the best quality keyboards on the market. They may not be what you're after as they are as simple as a keyboard can be. No backlighting, no macros, no media keys(Depending on which you buy), and no outlandish design. They are like the Model M of today. Heavy, thick metal backplate and just feels great. They cost so much not because of the frills, but because of the craftsmanship that goes into them. I love them as they're built like tanks and they look professional.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

But then, there's the WASD V2 which, you can Customized yourself...so, Why not V2 instead? I mean, that's one of the reason we went( perhaps only me) to Mechanical keyboards, CUSTOMIZABLE Bruh....

You can still customise the keycaps. You can do that with any mechanical keyboard on the market that uses a Cherry MX compatible stem. But still, the build quality of Filco surpasses that of pretty much every other keyboard on the market. WASD only feel like you're customising your actual keyboard, when in truth you're not, you're buying the layout you want and then getting some custom keycaps, nothing different than normal, really.

but then there's a customization that you can do easily (WASD) without ordering any keycaps (other keyboard, Mostly) and it would arrive as you wanted it would look like(WASD)

WASD also have cheap keycaps compared to Filco, they're thin and in my opinion not that good. Plastics too, Filco use heavier and thicker plastic for their construction. It's not just about the metal backplate that will make sure it's built like a brick, it's the housing too. Take Cooler Master for example, some of their keyboards use the same body as Filco, however, they don't use as sturdy plastics, making the keyboards weaker and off lower quality, same for Ducky, which also supports the duel layer PCB and metal backplate.

*shrugs* as I said some people just want a plain keyboard and dont care about that

Honestly I rarely see people mention Filco so dunno where this is coming from, and as Mikey said, amazing quality

It doesn't have an metal housing. It just has the entire top plate as metal. You can tell because the switches themselves are fully exposed. The metal "housing" as people seem to think it is, is just the backplate, of which there is only one. There's still plastic under the keyboard to protect the internals. Meaning, there's less material and thus less structural integrity.

EZ. Quality and brand. Filco, or Diatec (the name of the company) has established a reputation for making high quality keyboards, even though their keyboards don't feature macro keys, function keys, or any special functions other than a simple layout. There are people who prefer to have the simple layout and no backlighting features and what not.

I've played with mechanical keyboards for over 4~5 years now, and I have yet to find a negative comment about Filco other than its lack of extra features. Everything else about it is just highly praised. Forget the internals of the keyboard, just compare the outer case of a Filco vs CM Storm QuickFire Rapid/XT (made from the same factory) and you will notice the difference in quality, although in the case of CM Storm you are paying less.

That said, I personally do think a Filco is really expensive, almost overpriced even. If I were to ever buy one I know for sure that I am not simply buying it for its build quality, but also for the name xD

I'm confused, what I read there was just backing up what we were saying? That they are the top standard of modern mechanical keyboards.
