I have a HP laptop and the hdmi never worked on it. I what to make into a media pc but the hdmi does not work. I sometimes bring this to school and it my be made into a server one day. so i need this to still work. I did work on day randomly so ya...

1. take it apart and see if i can fix it.

2. just leave it 

3. I have the answer it is .......

If you have proper drivers from Nvidia/AMD (depending on your GPU) installed and it still doesn't work, seems like the port itself is faulty. I would leave it, not worth fixing. I wouldn't really recommend using a laptop as a server by the way. Laptops are not built for 24/7 operation. For one thing you'll completely kill your battery and having the power adapter plugged in all the time will kill it after a while.
