"E:\ Is Not Accessible. The Parameter Is Incorrect." (HDD problem)

I am attempting to retrieve files from a "clients" hard drive. It's a Seagate 500 gig, and was previously running XP. Upon attempting to boot on it, it would say something like "disc error" and basically you couldn't access the operating system. So, I opened it up under Windows. When I right click and select "properties" or "format", I get an error that states ""E:\ Is Not Accessible. The Parameter Is Incorrect."  I then proceeded to open the cmd and run checkdisk. When I execute "chkdsk /f E:" I get nothing, and cannot enter anything else into the command line. What do I do?

What does it say under disk management?

Infact, download HDTune and see what S.M.A.R.T says.

The disk labeled "Disk Drive" is the one that I am having trouble with. Anyways, so there's that, it has no specific label.

Also, the command prompt updated and stated the following; "This file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not avaliable for RAW drives."

I mean in this:

:P

If it's saying RAW then the partition table is likely corrupt.

EDIT:

Try using this software to recover the partition. I've not used this personally so your mileage may vary, let me know how it goes though!

Okay, so I ran TestDisk and neither the quick search or deeper search were able to find any partitions. I also noticed another program in the file, PhotRec. I ran that as well, and my estimated until completion was around 2300-2900 hours.
