Is this a good budget system?

I greatly improved a system that I had designed for a friend. I just want to know if this is a good system for gaming for 600 dollars. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gwj7bv

My i5 6500 is bad and can't even maintain 4.5ghz, and 4.4ghz causes it to slowly become unstable over weeks with a vcore of 1.395. FML

I did a lot of research and found out that 4 threads dual core is a limiting factor on some games, and my friend plays Far Cry 4 and we thought the patch for dual core systems was too much. Also the 280x is better and cheaper.

first of all, people should be warning you not to go with this build because you don't have sufficient wattage on the psu to power this sucker. 2nd, didn't i do a build for you before? you prob should have gone with that.

you need roughly 600-650w to power this system.

I used the power supply calculator on NEWEGG and it said i needed about 510 watts and it recommended me to some 500 watt psus

EDIT: Ill try some other power supply calculators and see if you are telling me the truth.

i would never buy a used gpu on ebay. someone could have pushed it too hard in an overclock and damaged the chip

it doesn't provide sufficient wattage

you need to use this formula:

[(cpuTdp + gpuTdp) * 2 ] + [(numberOfGpus -1) * gpuTdp]

except in  your case, you don't need as much as 668w because you're not overclocking your cpu. 600w minimum

Nope 500 watts is enough but I might go with 600 for safety but I don't think there is enough money for it.

how is 500w enough? the manufacturer of a reference design 280x specifically says 600w minimum. i know for a fact you will have issues with a 500w psu.

good luck

There is no need for that system, I just used the power supply in your build thanks for replying with what I should get. Also, the r9 280x is better than the r9 380 and that is why I chose it over the 380. If you think that the 380 is better than tell me why and I will consider it.

You can get SSD's for $40. It fits into the build.

Honestly you should be able to find a used 280x much cheaper locally I imagine (eBay isn't a great place for finding electronics and PC parts, they're usually over priced).

They sell here or around $120. Which is like $90 US.

off the top of my head, the only reason i don't recommend the 280x or the 200 series gpu's is because they get really hot under load. i've had two 780 ti's get very hot under load and it's not fun. you're always worrying about whether or not things will break down or overheat. the case gets massively warm. if i come up with anything else i'll let you know.

Not really. Calculator recommends around 450w for an overclocked system.

Here, even Anandtech puts the 280x, at load under Furmark at only 335w.
