GTX 980 ti question...

saxguy67

Current Build

i7 4790k @ stock

VII Hero Motherboard

evga supernova 1000w

gtx 770 superclocked

be quiet dark rock pro 3 cooler

fractal design r5 case

Right now, I currently play games at 1080p at max settings. I've been saving up and would like to upgrade to a high end GPU and a higher resolution monitor. Price really isn't a factor at this point. I'm assuming the gtx 980 ti is the best single GPU on the market. Which 980 ti and monitor would you select, if price isn't a factor???

Thanks!

For the price is it the best. What resolution would like you to play at?

Personally, I'd be all over a 980ti Classified and a 4K monitor.

Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow; Motherboard: MSI ZZ490 Gaming Edge; CPU: i7 10700K @ 5.1GHz; Cooler: Noctua NHD15S Chromax; RAM: Corsair LPX DDR4 32GB 3200MHz; Graphics Card: Asus RTX 3080 TUF; Power: EVGA SuperNova 750G2; Storage: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB; Crucial M500 240GB & MX100 512GB; Keyboard: Logitech G710+; Mouse: Logitech G502; Headphones / Amp: HiFiMan Sundara Mayflower Objective 2; Monitor: Asus VG27AQ

EVGA 980Ti Hybrid. Monitor depends on the games you play. I'd choose a Dell UltraSharp U2715H for RPG games and stuff. ASUS PG278Q ROG Swift if you play a lot of FPS games.

Differences between both monitors? Dell is an IPS panel, ROG swift is TN panel. IPS panels have better color reproduction (richer colours) and better viewing angles, but has slower response time. TN panels have better response time but lower colour reproduction and narrower viewing angles.

For the monitor, possibly wait for the Asus PG279Q to release or go for the Asus PB278Q for half the price.

I will eventually have around $1400 to spend on the gpu and monitor (give or take $100). The games I mainly play are battlefield 4, gta 5, counter strike, starcraft 2, and some onther games that are less demanding.

After doing some looking, I think I like these cards the best...

For the monitor, would a single gtx 980ti be able to run current games at 4k with good fps?? I think I like either the Acer XB280HK or the Asus ROG Swift. I see positives to both of these monitors, but if fps was an issue, I'd probably go with the Asus Swift monitor @ 1440p

I have a 980ti and an xb280hk and yes it will max out everything at 4k 60fps :)

there's occasionally a bit of compromise, like you don't need AA at 4k and may have to lower shadows and post processing to maintain 60fps at ultra settings, but it will have zero visual impact.

4k really isn't as hard to drive as people say, and those that say it is don't have 4k displays to back up their posts.. I do! trust me!
