But I doubt the Fury and 290X/ 390x are compatible.

Nope, crossfire requires same architecture family (390x is Hawaii and Fury X is Fiji).

Grenada is a revision of Hawaii (if even that), and they're still CrossFire compatible.

is it already? if I recall correctly you couldn't just cf the 390x and 290x at launch. I think you needed to flash the bios of one of the cards to match up (the 290x to be a 390x or vise versa), but my info could be out of date and you might be able to cf without bios flash.

 

edit: at least according to this guy you could not crossfire 2xx with 3xx at the time of this around 2:10

HBM + GDDR5 won't mix very will two very archatectures = lots of errors.
