Hey guys, I'm building a gaming rig and i need help picking a CPU. Intel and Amd are both fine and the total build max is around $1200 but would like the cpu to be no more than $200.I plan on playing games such as battlefield  and crisis on high/ultra 1080p at at least 60FPS Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

I know that if you have a microcenter nearby you can pick it up in store for 200$. I would recommend the same processor too.

If you really want to maintain a solid 60 FPS then an Intel i5 is the way to go. The one you select will depend on how much you've allotted to the motherboard and how much you're willing to spend on the CPU... like there's no point in getting an unlocked 4690K for overclocking if you're not also getting a Z97 motherboard.

The dirt cheap option is to get any first-gen Haswell i5 like an i5-4430, 4440, 4570 or 4670 matched with an H81 or B85 board. The mainstream option (and what I'd recommend) would be to get either an i5-4460 or i5-4590 paired with an H97 chipset motherboard.

edit:

Yeah if you're going with an AIO liquid cooler and want to overclock, then you're looking at getting an i5-4690K and a Z97 motherboard. AMD's best option for the similar price range is the FX-8350 with a 990FX motherboard, however for gaming the FX CPUs fall behind the Intel... I'd only really recommend them if the bulk of your workload is video rendering, VMs, etc.

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

Your max temps will be around 50c with that cooler. The 4690k is great for overclocking and will last a great amount of time! Might be worth it to spend that full 200 for a cpu that will last a bit longer.

Waste of money unless you're going i5-4690k or i7-4790k.
