Overclocking

So I want to overclock my i7-4790k and i'm having some issues.

I believe I can get 4.1 GHZ EASY with my setup but temps go off the charts.

So, I set my multiplier to 41 and temps were fine (50 degrees) in the BIOS. I booted up into Windows and checked my temps with a program called Core Temp and was again getting fine readings (50 degrees). So I then ran a stress test with Prime 95 and instantly my temps went up to 90 degrees.

Here are my temps at stock speed after 5 minutes with Prime 95 (4GHZ)

With overclock

Weird thing about everything is when I enable turboboost I can easily get 4.4GHZ with 70 degree temps.

Do you have adaptive voltage/power on?

Check this

Because adaptive voltage + P95 + Haswell = Fireball

Automatic voltage? I don't know. How do I check?

Should be in Bios settings under OC

Also Prime95 usually makes haswell CPUs go to EXTREME temps.

My 4590 is 59c under heavy load (GTA/BF4) and P95 makes it overheat and shut down

Don't use Prime95.

AIDA64 is the best stress testing program.  The free trial is enough to set up your OC.

I only see Auto Voltage. Theres an Auto mode, Offset mode, and a fixed mode.

EDIT: Found adaptive voltage. It was enabled. What do I change it to?

Disable it. Then find a stable voltage for your overclock
