Building new pc with old CPU. Help would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I have a prebuild pc. Yeah, I know they're bad, but because of the launch of the Witcher 3 i'd like to build myself a new one. I have an I7-2600 in my current pc and i would like to use in the new pc. By the way, the pc is supposed to be game oriented. So far I have chosen these components and I'd like to hear what you think:

GPU: EVGA GTX 980 Superclockeed ACX 2.0

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro

PSU: Be Quiet! Power Zone 650W

SSD: ADATA SSD Premier Pro SP600S3 256GB SATA

Motherboard : Asrock Z77 PRO 4 LGA 1155

RAM: G.Skill DDR3 2x4gb ripjawsx 2400mhz cl11 (If i have 2x4gb DDR3s with unknown frequency and i would like to use in addition 2x4gb stated above, will there be any problems?)

CPU cooling: Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.B

CPU+Hard drive from old pc.

My budget is more or less like this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Just throw in a 970 or 980 in your current PC and you're good to go.

I would not recommend getting a new motherboard if you stay with the same CPU since it is not very cost/performance efficient.

Don't buy DDR3 ram that is faster then 1866mhz, it's not worth the extra money

I don't think you need to build a completely new rig. I think that'll cost too much money and you'll be wasting time, as you have some good parts here. I recommend upgrading your CPU, mobo, and getting a HDD for mass storage.

Ideal Upgrade:

i7-4790k: 340$

Z97 Krait edition: 130$ (sorry not available on newegg right now check with someone else)

1 TB HDD: 70$ on sale

Total: 540$

Edit: Shit, I just realized that's your planned build.....

Well you could still take my advice and put it in your old or planned PC...

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!
