How to set a Hot-swap bay

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

i've read that if i do this, then my computer will not boot from my ssd. is this correct or not?

ACHI doesn't effect that. Changing it to IDE would have some effect on some SSDs. Thats not the only setting you need. On that mobo, under Avanced -> PCH Storage Configuration. You can select how each SATA port acts. The option is under Hot Plug. Enable to port that is connected to your bay.

Hi guys, i have a cooler-master case which has a 2.5 inch hot swappable drive bay at the front. the only problem is that i don't know how to make use of this bay.

the only way that this bay seems to work is if i restart my computer. i searched online, but could't seem to find a solution for my problem.

my motherboard is the Asus maximus vii ranger, which if i am not mistaken has all the sata ports controlled by the Intel chip-set.

any suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advanced for your help :)

Switching to AHCI, you may also run into a blue screen starting Windows again.

If that happens, you have to change it back to IDE and edit the Windows registry then boot back to BIOS and change to AHCI again.

The details are here: http://superuser.com/questions/471102/change-from-ide-to-ahci-after-installing-windows-8
