Battery storage - charged or discharged?

Is it better to story batteries discharged or charged?

Which will give a better longer battery life?

if it's LiPO/li-ion/LiFe (phone battery i suspect) you should store them on about a about quarter to half charge.

I heard around 80% charge is the best for lithium ion batterys.

I typically store dslr batteries, phone etc charged, it's the suggested method.

Phones show actualy from few to 100%. That few is displayed as 0. So total charge is below 50%. For LiPo minimum is around 3.5V and max around 4.2V and store is 3.8V.

As said Lithium storage at ~50% and NiMH/NiCd at 100%

It is very dependant on the kind of batteries used. Battery storage between, nicd, nimh, and lipo batteries differ quite a bit. nimh batteries can usualy be stored at just below full for best results, nicd are best stored empty, and lipo batteries are best stored with about 1/3 of a charge.
