35mm 1.8 dx focus motor noise

Kind of a noob question but I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I thought the lens is AF-S but my 35mm makes a grinding noise when focusing. Ican hear it when it's next to me and when taking a picture. It's not that loud but I can still hear it.

 

Edit. Returned the lens and picked up a 50mm 1.8 and it sounds alot different(Not defective)

I have that lens myself, and mine is silent; so it sounds like yours might be defective.

I've used 3, and they all make that noise.

It's a cheap lens, so, they don't put much into making it super silent.

Mine is more of a grinding and squeaking noise. I asked nikon and they said its a problem not suppose to do that.

mine makes noise but its rather quiet.  so its probably an issue with yours
