Is the Benq XL2720 worth it? Please answer

IMadeYouReadThis

Asus VG248QE.  VS. Benq XL2720

I know the Benq XL2720 is better but which is more worth it? Should I go for the extra $200 for Benq?

Wrong.

NEVER choose the VG248QE over the XL2720Z
I have both.

I've written on both monitors before.

The VG248QE only has points over the XL2720Z if not using V4 firmware.

V4 firmware makes the XL2720Z better than the VG248QE in EVERY way except pixel pitch.

(V4 changes the overdrive making it far less aggressive and also adds a new AMA high hidden setting which tones down the overdrive even more (But you need to drop the contrast to not get more normal ghosting).

But the main reason why you choose the 27" over a 24" panel is because the 24" popular AU Optronics M240HW01 V8 panel that is used in various manufacturer's monitors (Asus VG248QE, Benq XL2411T, XL2420TE/TX, XL2420Z, XL2411Z, XL2430T) all suffer from gamma degradation (gamma point dropping) as the refresh rate increases, and loss of color fidelity at higher refresh rates.

2.2 gamma at 60 hz refreh rate becomes 1.9 gamma (!!) at 144 hz refresh rate and 1.8 gamma in Lightboost mode.

Contrast also massively drops in LB mode (dropping from 900:1 normally to <450:1) but you won't be buying a XL2720Z to get 900:1 contrast in Lightboost (which it can do).

VG248QE does not have gamma adjustments to compensate for this, like the 24" version of the Benq (the XL2420Z).

So you need ICC profiles for each refresh rate (which can be annoying if you switch around for different games (91 hz for COD Advanced warfare, etc).

Those drawbacks greatly outweigh the benefits of a tighter dot pitch.

How do I know?
I own a XL2720Z with V4 (flashed with Ubuntu) and two VG248QE's.  Guess which monitors I'm not using? :)
