Question about cooling Fractal Design Define R4/R5

Go to solution Solved by GodSpoon,

You should be fine without SP (static pressure) optimized fans.

I would look into the Noctua NF or NH series if you want stupid quiet fans, as well as BeQuiet and Aerocool

If your doing watercooling or will have more obstructions I would look into the Noctua fans I mentioned, Corsair's SP series and the new Vardar fans I saw floating around from EK

Hello, I'm going to be buying a Fractal Design Define R4 (or possibly R5) and I have couple of questions about the recommended case fans (the front intakes especially). So, should I go for pressure or airflow optimized fans in the front given that I will be removing the HDD cages inside the case. Also I would appreciate if you could recommend some fans between 10€-25€ (~$8-$27).

If you are removing the drive cages, definitely airflow optimized fans.  That said, the two fans that come with the R5 are great, I put them both in the front (they come one front and one back) and have them connected to the built in fan controller on high all the time and do not hear them at all.

Fractal Design Define R5 | i7-4790k | Corsair H80 | Asus Z97-Pro WiFi | 2 x EVGA GTX 970 SSC+ | 16GB G.Skill Sniper@1866MHz | Samsung 840 Evo 256 GB | 1TB + 750GB drives | EVGA 750W G2 | 27" BenQ IPS 1440p@60Hz | Windows 10

Alright, I thank you both for your replies, what I will most likely do is change the exhaust fan that comes with the case to the front and add a noctua fan in its place.

A bit of static pressure would be recommended to push through the vents and door.

Where are you shopping/located? Are you not satisfied with the stock fans?

I'm located in Finland, I mentioned that I'm going to be buying the case not that I already have it. I'm sure the stock fans are great but some extra airflow is never bad. From my understanding Noctua case fans (NF-A fans) are somewhere between airflow optimized and static pressure optimized if I'm wrong please correct me. :)

That's correct--NF-A14's would be optimal for the case.
