Black Silent Pro PK-3 or Noctua NF-A14 2000?

Watsyurdeal

I'm trying to decide on what radiator fans to get, and I'm stuck between these two, arguably loud fans yes, but hella powerful, and ideal for the pull setup I want to have in my case.

But which one should I get?

I'm going to go with the Noctua's here. When you set them at low RPM they are near silent but most importantly don't have that tick that plagues most fans. So they can be loud but don't neccesarily have to be when there's no need.

Though for this specific purpose Vardar is often named as the brand of choice. No firsthand experience there, but something perhaps to look into.

Looked at the Vardar, seemed promising but it's only a 120 mm fan at the moment. I'm looking for 140s for my NZXT Kraken.

Where are you shopping/located? Budget? What are you replacing the fans for? We might be able to suggest some alternatives.

Alright, I'm looking to shop online, ebay, amazon, newegg, whatever gives me the best price on a new fan. These will be replacing the stock NZXT Fans that came with my x61 Kraken, so they need to 140 mm and be optimized for static pressure.

It also might be important to note that I have a fan controller with 6 channels and 30 watts per channel, so I may put two fans on the same channel to make sure they're pushing the same amount of voltage.

I'm guessing you're using USD?

Yea they make an awful clicking noise when I have them in the rad, yet it's not so bad when they are intake or exhaust fans. That and I have 50 bucks to spare, that's enough for 2 noctuas where I live.

So 50USD?

Cleaned the double post. In the future, just report the post for it to be removed.

Yep, 50 USD, will likely have more to spare here pretty soon. I'm kinda iffy now tho about the Noctuas, they have a large amount of Static Pressure, but maybe too much, 4+ seems like over kill for my PC. Any experience with them?

i'm a big noctua fan, but the industrial series can be noisy so go with the PK-3

You could go for the regular noctua series?

Although I do love me some of their industrial ppc fans

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

I run nothing but Noctuas in my system.

Why would you need 4+ fans for a 280mm rad?

4 as in the static pressure of the fans, the industrial series has a static pressure higher than 4 per fan. Which is awesome but may be overkill for a standard PC.

If you mean the amount of static pressure, you didn't mention the unit of measurement. The listed spec is usually not reliable though.

Why not get normal NF-A14's?

From the regular series???

Cause they're brown, if I'm gonna spend that much on a fan it should at least match my case.  :\

Have you taken a look at Hyperboreas? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-case-fan-rocf11003

If performance is less of an issue but noise is, consider Silent Wings 2's.

I'm also looking for some good fans for a new build.  I have the Blacksilent Pro PS-PL and I've compared it to a number of fans including the

Noctua NF-F12 ippc 2000 that I received today..

The Noctua pushes an amazing amount of air through an Alphacool UT60 rad.. At 900rpm the Noctua feels like it pushed more than twice

the air of the Noiseblocker.. However the NB win's the noise battle hands down.  IF you can keep the Noctua below 1100rpm it's very quite

and pushed more air than the Noiseblocker at 1500rpm..

However.. I've been testing the Noctua in different machines and have some mixed results.. The first machine had a bad ticking sound at

low rpm and a moan in the motor.. It's in a different machine now and running flawlessly.. No moan or clicking.. So it seems sensitive to the

PWM signal quality... If your board is making other fans tick, it might make the Noctua tick..

One last tidbit.... Read a lot forum posts about the ippc fans and many people have said the min speed is 900rpm.. The first machine I tested

with could run it at 480rpm, and it's running 718rpm in this one... No idea why people have said it will only do 900.

900rpm is still pretty high. If you want quiet, you probably shouldn't be getting iPPC's or run them ~600rpm depending on your ears. I run my Noctuas at ~400rpm.

NF-F12's are quieter than the Noiseblocker at lower speeds while pushing more air.

The people saying the lower limit is 900rpm are probably using an inappropriate fan controller. I have no issues running my Noctuas at 7% speed and I wouldn't be surprised if the iPPC's could go lower.

The NFA14 PWM IPPC models have a minimum speed of 500rpm for the 2000 rpm max versions, and 800rpm on the 3000rpm max version. Idk which models people are talking about that need to be run at 900 that's not likely to be anything but user error.

They all come with a -/+ of 20% so people reporting they run theirs at 480rpm are within that margin.

I personally run my normal A14 at 300-600rpm and don't find them to be particularly loud or annoying. Get the NFA14 2000PWM if you're in a similar boat. They do all come with degrees of Ingress protection - mostly IP52 unless you go out of your way to get the IP67 models, which is a nice bonus.

Shouldn't the iPPC's have the same noise levels as the regular fans at equal RPM? After all they are the exact same fan except for the motor upgrade.

I'm pretty happy with the Noctua's so far.. I THINK I'll get to keep them at low RPM so it should be a nice and decently quite machine.

Yes, they'd perform the same at the same rpm.
