first time overclocking cpu :) (4690k)

its my first time overclocking and want an idea how far to push the little bad boy

 

was wondering what frequencies you had on your 4690k's

and what are your temps, voltage, motherboard

Nuff said, my original overclock was 4.8GHz @1.3v, it was a saved OC profile, after I loaded up the profile, it crashed, restarted then it spent 30 seconds on the MSI Splash screen, opened HWMonitor, thought I was high.

Nope, but I was reading on SiliconeLottery that they have Delidding service where they change the thermal pads to allow maximum overclocking. It somehow glitched I guess.

try one stick of ram at a time, one of those stick of rams is clocking all of them down.

move your VCCIN to 1.90-1.95v (memory seems to straighten up) instead of AUTO.

hmmm... I know @Gofspar got his 3770k delidded by SilliconLottery. They even sent him a pic of the die and heat spreader taken off before resealing it.

 

And it isn't a thermal pad, it's a paste, they replace it with basically liquid metal.

Is it possible that this particular chip was de-lidded by Intel for testing but still somehow ended up back onto the production line and to me?

The way silliconlottery delids, you're just replacing the bad paste they apply, it wouldn't make sense that they'd put decent paste on one cpu and that's it.
